@stevoooo @louis If the concern is tracking/ads, DDG is already enough, it doesn't share user info with Bing even though it uses it for the search, that's the whole point of it.

@dansup @pixelfed I much prefer the new version, but as others pointed out, I think maintaining the case is important.

I would also like for the # signal to be kept to make it more explicit, which I feel is specially more relevant when the hashtag is in the middle of the text for example (which I assume would still be possible, it would be horrible to not be able to use hashtags in the middle of the description).

@tshirtman Oh, where did you see it? I think in Brazil it's called "4x4" or "Carioquinha" ("Carioca" is someone/something from Rio), like:

I saw "Brinquinho" (famous player here) say that it's played mostly in Rio and Ceará. But I often see the colors separated (like: https://youtu.be/P2kbnw6IzmU?t=261), dunno if that changes the name

Without the white, it's called "bola lisa" ['plain ball', I guess because they're not numbered])

But I don't know much about our pool variants tbh

@tshirtman About the rules, you just have to pot either all the yellows or reds.

But I would need to check what happens in case you hit one of the opponents' balls, I never really saw a full game of this pool version.

@dansup That seems like a great solution! 😮

I personally don't want it blocked, obviously not because I like or trust meta (although I do think the e.e.e fears aren't realistic, the fediverse is well established and no matter how much they extend, few here will switch to meta if they cut the federation later), but because it might be a way to talk with some acquittances that only use their platform (which is literally everyone I have contact irl, nobody I know is in the fediverse).

If you're using Mastodon through the web on a computer, there's an optional multicolumn interface you can use instead of the default single column one.

  1. Log in through your server’s website
  2. Click ⚙️ Preferences
  3. Tick the box marked Enable Advanced Web Interface
  4. Click the Save Changes button
  5. Click the Back to Mastodon link at the left of the screen

If you change your mind, click the ⚙️ icon on the left to get back to settings.

No es exactamente así, ellos solamente crearon esa opción de "opt-in" (y no el consentimiento por defecto) después de una enorme presión y 'backlash' de la comunidad, no por su propria voluntad. Su decisión de crear 'DreamUp' es evidencia clara que apoyan a eso, algo a que prácticamente todos los artistas se oponen, pues ahora ellas ya fueran entrenadas con artes sin autorización

Creo que Pixelfed (que hasta tiene función 'Portfolio') sería una alternativa mucho mejor

Rant about the world of social media and marketing:

My latest (very recent) shock was receiving an email from a digital painting software company (I can't name them) asking me my price to switch my entire workflow to their proprietary product and announce it on my channels.

Of course I refused.

I'm still 100% committed to Free/Libre&Open-Source Software. But it made me realise that these days even profiles without a huge internet presence are getting paid to use and advocate things. Meh 😔

mesmerized doesn't begin to describe the fedi for me, and the fact I can contribute to it in some way is like a dream

I'm a self-taught hs dropout and I was lost for a few years until I learned webdev, it helped me grow and I still struggle with imposter syndrome but I wouldn't trade this for the world

@pixelfed Nice! And yeah, github is ok, offer great services and is by very very far the most used platform, so it's an easy choice, makes little sense to hinder your project just to go 100% on the ideological side, it would be kinda counterproductive to the open source side itself.

@taylorlorenz as others pointed out, people were not upset with the promotion, just with the repeated posts, which I have to agree, do look spammy.

I think the advice some people gave here, of posting a link to a new video instead of the same message, would work much better as promotion.

@dansup @pixelfed Ohhh, these Inline modals are gonna be quite helpful! As a workaround we could open it on another tab, but the modal makes it quite convenient to quickly browse stuff, thanks a lot.

Last April, I left my Twitter account, but without deleting it, to keep more than 10 years of posts for archiving (tutorials, brushes, threads, etc...). I also wanted to occupy the namespace to avoid seeing an account doing impersonation. Then I uninstalled the app, stopped reading my TL, and put all this in the background...

But when a friend told me yesterday that it was a good thing I had left Tw early, I felt bad that I still had that dormant account.

I deleted it as soon as I got home.😺

@UkeBLCatboy @davidrevoy @eskuero Just a small correction, but threads/bluesky are conceptually quite different from here (especially threads, considering it's from Meta). About the protocol, Bluesky uses another one and threads just has planned support for ActivityPub (the one mastodon uses). But more importantly, they are for profit organizations.

Edit: I'm curious now about these Japanese digital painters hehe Can you share which profiles you follow, David? :)

(Tbh for posts with multiple photos I even like the view on mastodon more lol)

@marhoff @dansup @pixelfed It already exists :) I don't know much about the fediverse blogging platforms though, but look at @yubal for example, you can view it and follow like a regular mastodon account, but if you go to the tree dots on the profile and "open original page" you'll see it's actually a blog. (the platform itself, "writefreely", is open source, but the hosting is paid)

Sorry for the random ping yubal, but I thought it was worth it to demonstrate these cool fediverse things 😅

@mitexleo @pixelfed For me there was not many alternatives, there's no way I'm gonna use instagram and I wanted a place to showcase drawings, so mastodon didn't fit that well.

Since you can (in general) interact with mastodon, the lack of people doesn't seem that bad, although it's indeed sad that few people comment (I actually never got a single comment lol), I also really dislike how it lacks basic stuff, like editing posts, but it's great to finally have a place where I can show my drawings.

@charly22 @dctrud lol I know it wasn't intentional but it's a bit like: He's a great player, just need to improve his tactical game, potting, rest play, temperament and break off 😄. But speaking seriously, it's nerve wrecking indeed hehe For me, just Thepchaiya makes me even more tense watching. Both of course are amazing players, especially Jack. 🙂
