I own the domain https://flatpak.app and have been hosting an experiment there for a while: short URLs for Flatpak apps.

First, a caveat: I know why Flatpak and Flathub donโ€™t mess with short IDs and have chosen RDNN! And I mostly agree with it. Buuuutโ€ฆ

Is there some value in having a link to:

    flatpak.app/dippi

    โ€ฆinstead of:

    flathub.org/apps/com.github.cassidyjames.dippi?

Also, you can treat it like a search, as non-exact URLs will redirect to a search on Flathub.

I agree the system as it is now is not user-friendly. But at least the system works as expected.
Example: Say i have an install script for flatpak apps on fresh machines.
The first day all is fine because the names are unique, then somebody creates a similar app and the script is sent to the search page.
Better implememt a daemon that can open flatpak:// links or something and install apps from the browser, than copy & paste to console.

Since i am not celebrating this day for some reasons, i have time to code while my family is asleep. The last hour, i implemented the wrapper functions, for setting up/logging in/unlocking accounts and saving state to the db for the client.
    We are getting somewhere.
Some GUI stuff and decryption is still on the list before you can check out the code.

Relm4 at the moment. It is both in some ways, though i hsve the main concept figured out (states/flow). I don't know exactly which components i should use for lists for example.

And sometimes how these list items provide interfaces to transfer their values via click events.

I've gone full nerd and added a to my work setup. 2 x 22inch (55cm) monitors with my laptop screen as a third displaying the keymapp app from ZSA to show me where the keys are on each layer (I'm slowly learning) and now an old trackball which was sitting around in the office. I haven't used one since I was little, so I'll see how I get on with it for a week before I get my own.

My biggest enemy today in is the fact, that i cannot implement/extend traits from another crate. So i wanted to use structs from the crate since i am piggy-backing on their logic, but since i need Debug on those, because i am writing a app, i am screwed. Or am i missing something?
I mean i could just use my own types based on the rbw ones, since they are not likely to change (the crate looks feature-complete), but meh, is there a better way?

I am still a beginner and wouldn't know where to start. I am trying to get things working for now first. Any help/hints appreciated.
Well i know how to send upstream, but i don't know how to "vendor" the crate.
Not sure if it is correct in upstream because they do not really need it AFAIK.

    Well if you

    • have several machines which share some config or
    • like having centrally stored configs or
    • need to reinstall machines due to hardware (disk) changes or
    • like the ability to roll back updates
      then you should try.

Together with home-manager where you can declare userspace and dotfiles it is powerful, but you need to learn one or two things.

Maybe - if you are priviliged like me and not in need of material presents - you can consider this as well.

Since i am slowly migrating away from my setup towards bare metal setup and i do not want to let the syno go to waste, i decided to use it as a backup server with automounts for backup folders. Let's see how that goes.

I liked the syno at first, but since i cannot really configure it besides that what the DSM webgui provides, it is hard to get a nice setup going. Also the outdated kernel and some other stuff like not being able to install what i want sucks.

One of the more limiting things about Signal is you have to give out your mobile number to everyone. Even if it is a burner, I still don't want to advertise to the world that it's mine.

Was happy to read today that Signal is now beta testing a new username feature.

For me it is on the same level as "you can only have 1 active device". Noth needs fixing. Luckily the phone number issue can easily be resolved.
