I hate kdenlive with a passion.

I regret every dollar I've ever donated to that project.

Just spent an hour editing. Had to close the project and open another for a moment. I saved the project before switching. Did it twice.

Then came back to the main project and found that it ate half the video. Like wtf is even that bug?

chrisafk,
@chrisafk@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast I've had my share of strange problems with it as well. Every keyframe shifted over by ten frames on all effects for example. I somehow fixed that in some random combination of unrepeatable acts. It felt like magic.

What are some good latte-dock alternatives?

chrisafk,

@visone Hmm good idea. I'll just use a plasma panel.

If there are openings for entry-level software engineers proficient in Python, Java, or C/C++, I'm eager to apply. My GitHub showcases university and personal projects, and I've contributed modestly to open-source projects. Confident in my potential to excel.

I have gotten exactly zero responses to the job applications I've been submitting. Across linkedin and indeed. I'm starting to think there is something seriously wrong with my approach. Is it normal to have absolutely zero contact after 50 - 100 job applications?

Can anyone give me some tips on getting a first software job?

I really want to start my career but my job applications aren't getting me anywhere at the moment.

Going to see if Vivaldi's web panels can be my Todoist solution for a while.

My biggest issue is that I need it in my face all the time or I will just not do the things on the list, which is why a dedicated app is necessary. We'll see if a web panel will do okay or if I will have to continue my search.

chrisafk,
@chrisafk@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast
You have that issue with todo lists too huh? Somehow I use Joplin successfully for todo lists but I think its because it automatically opens when I login so its the first thing I see every morning.

chrisafk,
@chrisafk@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast
Recurring tasks? This might sound extremely primitive but I just uncheck all my reoccurring tasks when I'm done with them haha that's how I deal with my daily tasks at least.

chrisafk,
@chrisafk@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast
To each their own, but I live for unchecking those tasks each night haha but yeah, it's not for most people. Using markdown text files as todo lists isn't popular for a reason :blobcatfingergun:

Every day that goes by, I like a little more.

chrisafk,
@chrisafk@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast
Its not perfect by any means but as someone who has daily driven openSUSE since Leap 15.1 (then switched to Tumbleweed after a year or so) its been absolutely solid. Some things don't work, but for the most part they are all minor things. And Snapper has been excellent, it enabled me to become a proficient Linux user. All my attempts to use Linux prior to openSUSE have resulted in some system breaking problem every few months.

chrisafk,
@chrisafk@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast
I'm really glad other people are starting to catch onto os, I always look at distro hoppers with awe. Setting up a system from top to bottom can take days and that isn't how I like spending my time.

When I first installed it my entire line of reasoning was that I never heard anyone mention using it and I thought the logo was nice haha

It just happened to be such a rock solid experience I never felt the need to try anything after that point.

Still struggling getting Hearthstone up and running on OpenSuSE. Lutris doesn't work, Bottles doesn't work, and tonight I tried to install it through Steam. Always gets stuck at the update mechanism before the Battle.net install.

chrisafk,
@chrisafk@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast
Not sure about hearthstone but Overwatch (which also requires Battle.net) has always been an extremely simple install in my experience.

BTW I haven't forgotten my offer to edit videos. I have been busy with job applications and other life things lately and I don't want to set something up and not be able to follow through. I'll send you an email soon to get more details from you.

Also, kdenlive was a pain in my ass tonight.

chrisafk,
@chrisafk@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast I'm not sure if you are using the version from the opensuse repos but I find that sometimes kdenlive will be bugged out for a few weeks at a time after an update on tumbleweed, but overall its pretty solid most of the time.

Btw if you ever want to offload some editing work I'm good for it! Down to help the cause 😁

chrisafk,
@chrisafk@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast yeah it can be pretty annoying.

No pay necessary btw. I consider it some level of activism. Just let me know. I have the free time to pick up a video here or there. Don't hesitate lmk :)

I need something less mundane to do with my time anyhow.

Need a good todo application with features similar to Todoist (especially the native language scheduling). Anyone have anything like that? Preferably FOSS.

chrisafk,
@chrisafk@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast not sure if helpful, but I have been using Joplin for my todo lists.

    I like nuclear power. I don't care what anyone says about it. I'm irrationally in favor of nuclear power. Doesn't rely on windy or sunny conditions. Doesn't rely on damming rivers.

    I don't care if its not the cheapest source of power. Its certainly better than the alternatives in terms of sustainability.

    Just have to manage the nuclear material properly. Thats the real hard part. That and maintenance.

    Are you finding Mastodon to be less vibrant/active?

    I’m worried that we are not getting as much engagement on our Ukraine war reporting as we used to.

    We’re trying to decide which social media platforms to continue posting on, given how much effort it takes to replicate across all of them.

    If you want to send a signal to us that we should keep posting here, will you sign up for our newsletter? http://Counteroffensive.substack.com

    I’m only asking Mastodon users today so we can gauge impact.

    chrisafk,
    @chrisafk@fosstodon.org avatar

    @timkmak perhaps people are just less interested in this topic. Not many people want to bombard their psyche with war all the time, if they don't have to.

    For those of you who run OpenSUSE, I am trying to install qtile extras. When I run the install script I get this error:

    ImportError: No module named setuptools

    Now I search for python311-setuptools, and I have it installed. I also tried installing python39 and 310 setup tools. What am I doing wrong?

    @thelinuxcast usually install python dependencies with pip but depends on the case. I'd try installing with pip if you haven't already.
