Someone else here suggested it and I think it's a great idea. We should spread that the COVID vaccine is embedded in gasoline fumes so if people want to avoid unpure vaccine contaminated blood, they need to stop driving 🤣

I want to know what the anti vaxxer response to this will be.

They'll probably want to eat plastic to spite the libs

Oh what the heck, I'm watching this live. Director, you better not slap me with a tragic ending.
Watching ep 1 & whooboy the CGI is rough. However, I like the costumes & sets which has a more realistic vibe and not the too-bright sheen of a lot of dramas.

looks like an "adventuring with friends in the jiang hu" kind of drama, like . Directed by the director of so I have big expectations.

chu,

@liztai

Let us know! I basically go with whatever you and AvenueX recommend these days 🤣

chu,

@liztai

Did you try "Imperial age"? I binged it. Couldn't help it. I love a well done historical drama. I was mildly disappointed that one of the characters was brutally tortured IRL and I was waiting in suspense to see how they would depict that. They totally copped out and pretended it never happened but as far as I could follow (based on the people I looked up), they hit a lot of historical events

chu,

@liztai

It's def a must watch. So heavy with history. Chengyi is in the first quarter as Chu Di and then they switch to a different actor to take the Emperor till his death in his 60s.

I love history though so I just eat this stuff up. I thought the man that played Zhu Yuan Chung deserved an Oscar (golden horse?) for his role. There was a scene when he's in his old age and 3 of his sons died before him. He is alone on his throne crying and you really felt sorry for a man who was a tyrant, killed an untold number of people, including many who were super loyal to him. I read somewhere that it was meant to be an 80 episode epic but got cut down because of law changes so the editing is sometimes abrupt.

I can't bring myself to read this whole thing. Our dystopian future is already here.

And the tech bros keep telling us AI is going to save the world 🙄

PR people. If you send me pitches like this, you almost surely will be summarily blocked.

I don't publish Goodhousekeeping-style tips for staying secure online. I'm not interested in talking to CEOs unless they are also engineers (and even then not very often). I eschew marketing fluff, "thought leadership," surveys, and funding and product news.

I look for new vulnerabilities, exploits and technical research, and telemetry that hasn't been published yet.

Please spend at least 10 minutes reading my past coverage and use it to internalize the kinds of stories I do and don't write. Then rather than sending me the same pitch you blast out to every other reporter, tailor your email to me.

I realize that you're probably under a lot of pressure and have managers who have unfair expectations and don't provide proper training. If it feels like I'm asking too much here, please just remove me from your list.

chu,

@dangoodin

Lol. You mean you don't want to write a story on how 94% of small businesses, including the thousands that couldn't even accept anything other than cash at the start of COVID are now ready for AI?

We are at the stage of higher education where faculty members are now given option to remove themselves from information directories due to fears of violence.

Social collapse doesn't happen in a day. Very likely historians will look back at this and point to it having already begun.

News articles like this are a great time to embed "oh btw, this extreme weather you're suffering is caused by carbon induced

Media needs to get on top of this by throwing in cause and effect of at EVERY opportunity.

I realize there are dangers as the meteorologist who did try to do this in the US faced death threats. We need to all get on board and do this together.

Watching "The Imperial Age" I totally fell into the wiki rabbit hole of Ming Dynasty emperors and this guy deserves special mention.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiajing_Emperor

Jia Jing Emperor didn't give audience for 25 years, basically did nothing but bask in sex (with minors no less), was so cruel that his own palace maids tried to assassinate him, and somehow the system of ministers and eunuchs still held that dynasty together for another 100 years before the Manchurian Qing dynasty came and cleaned that crap up.

Political systems don't fail in a day. Even under the most inept leadership, it can take time, but no doubt it will happen.

chu,

@SallyStrange

Right? How bad do you have to be for that to happen?

Pretty much every emperor that dynasty was terrible. The first one was ok I guess. He had humble origins. he was a military leader that overthrew the previous dynasty. His crown prince died young so the throne went straight to the grandson as the second emperor. The Dynasty's third emperor was the uncle that overthrew his nephew. He was cruel, but a decent ruler and it was pretty much downhill after that. This inept pile of nepotistic crooks lasted 200 years!

I also wonder if this is why I couldn't find any non AirBNB accommodation options.

I really need to switch search engines. Google Scholar is just so handy though.

My life achievement this week was feeding a tofu-skeptic friend 50 types of tofu while she was here, and now she’s tofu-obsessed (people just don’t know how to select, or cook, tofu, is my deeply held belief. There are hundreds of varieties and thousands of cooking styles, and it isn’t a meat replacement!)

In east asia, a tofu dish is also unlikely to be vegetarian unless specified (or a dessert)

chu,

@skinnylatte

Western supermarkets do not have soy milk. I don't know what they think that stuff is but it isn't soy milk.

I ended up getting a juicer so I could press my own soy.

chu,

@skinnylatte

We gave cow milk as a family mostly for reasons so I got a thing to make soy milk they use in cereal. A cup of warm soy milk in winter is simply the best. We are spending some time in TW this winter for my partner's sabbatical. I really look forward to "fried ghost" sticks with soy milk.

chu,

@skinnylatte @rushraptor

The flavour is also different. The western stuff has something in it to take out that heavy soy flavour.

In conversation w a friend, she was surprised when I said we won't have electricity after social collapse. She asked "why? What happens to electricity?"

I had to then explain that infrastructure needs people to maintain and if things fall apart, nobody will keep the generators going or the wires in check. She seemed surprised by this.

Is this why people don't seem worried about what's coming? They have no idea???

I was trying to hide my shock that I had to explain this to someone who isn't a child. I think I take too much for granted and assume too much of people's ability to be logical.

Now her obsession with social issues at the expense of makes sense. I was always wondering how someone on the left would not care about collapse. I have tried to explain before that as much as I share her concerns about the many dire issues that do need dealing with, none of it matters if climate change causes collapse. Then we won't have social housing, or equity, or any of the other things she cares about. (she was even part of a group that protested demanding "affordable gas")

Her look of shock finally helped me realize that she has absolutely no idea what means. No idea. I've been arguing with her all these years and she's had no idea.

I don't even know what to say.

There's no way she's the only one. Lots of well intentioned people say "yes climate is important but....".

I am here to tell you that none of those other issues will even exist in the face of climate and social collapse.

I don't know if the average person can even imagine the number of deaths that we are facing when the society we built loses electricity.

I learnt from a toot here that the Colorado River hasn't reached the ocean since the 60s except for a few rain heavy years.

It's amazing how we have to ability to not just foresee disaster, have it right in front of our eyes, and still shrug.
