A few garden flowers that just opened
Columbine we planted last year (and in fancy colors, @dillyd ) and a Rocky Mtn Penstemon, also planted last year.
In CO, vast numbers of streams are temporary or ephemeral, flowing only after major rainstorms & during spring runoff season. The Sackett decision said only wetlands that had a surface connection to continually flowing water qualified for protection. Many wetlands in CO have a sub-surface connection to streams, rather than one that can be observed above ground.
With the passage of this bill, CO wetland & ephemeral streams are once again protected.
Biden called global warming an “existential threat,” and over the last 3 years, his administration finalized 100 new env regs to cut air pollution and greenhouse gasses, restrict toxic chemicals, and conserve public land.
Trump has called climate change a “hoax,” and his admin weakened or wiped out more than 125 env rules in 4 years.
"Much as we’d like to pretend otherwise, Gary isn’t an anomaly—it’s one of the more striking examples of a phenomenon observed across the Rust Belt and beyond. It isn’t a city that is abandoned, it’s a city that was abandoned. Cities aren’t just buildings or the companies they were created to support, they’re the people that breathe life into them with their passions and pleasures, their art and music, their dreams."
Good. Our oil and gas regulators have gone far beyond "industry capture" into supine support ...
“CO still allows 10s of 100s of oil & gas facilities to ‘guesstimate’ how much toxic air pollution they’re putting into the air. Blocking this permit is a positive step forward toward the kind of accountability the oil and gas industry has fought hard to avoid. CO's weak permitting has routinely enabled them to do so.”
@SrRochardBunson yes. sitting just on the beach near some tide pools. the pools were so clear, it was like going diving just walking along next to them.
The total level of air pollution are 19 to 63 times greater than industry estimates.
The volume of polluting gases flowing from operations at the megaproject’s mining and steam injection facilities exceed volatile organic compound emissions from all industries in Canada.
Air pollution from the oilsands rivals the air pollution from all sources produced by a megacity like Los Angeles.
