@MrLovenstein The boom could also be a commercial. I wish AV receiver manufacturers would make a volume leveller to deal with this. My Yamaha has such a feature but its affects are minimal.

A real-life pod racer, but with pedals: Ars checks out a velomobile

Taking to the road in a modern, high-speed version of a 40-year-old dream.

@arstechnica I have a recumbent bike (not a velomobile). The riding position is the same in both: reclined with head up, no strained neck.

I can't overstate how much more comfortable riding these bikes are and how much better my view is. On top of that I can ride faster and further than on a safety-bike.

Sadly there are not safe bike lanes where I live and so I hardly ever ride.

friendly request for users and a little story:

in the early 90s my hillbilly county school had mandatory “shop class” (aka “industrial ed”) for junior high kids. giving 13 year olds access to 500C injection moulders, band saws and metal and wood lathes was always a recipe for insanity. and i loved it.

squirreled away in the shop teacher’s office, separate from the shop, was a neglected Macintosh Classic. with no games, no localtalk network, no After Dark, and no Mac Paint it was nothing more than a disquieting lump of plastic on his desk, that sat there for the 6 years I attended the school.

it did have one program though, that could have shaped my understanding of computing had I understood how it worked at the time: it had Hypercard.

there was one stack in particular that has haunted me for 30 years. it was a series of scanned atkinson-dithered photos of people’s heads. i think most of them were celebrities. but the one that stood out to me was this glorious photo of who I think was Boy George. (edit: it might have been George Michael. the name 'george' is most salient in my memory.)

hypercarders: has anyone ever seen this stack or particular photo? i’d love to put it on my desktop.

If your IPv6 subnetting/numbering scheme is exactly the same as your IPv4 subnetting/numbering schemes, then you're doing it wrong and you need to re-evaluate why you're deploying IPv6

whew! done cleaning the DraftPro. the POST reveals some solid lights, suggesting test failures.

i don’t have a 7576A service manual, but I suspect these are onboard ROM/RAM/CPU self tests that have failed. i’ll have to open it up and inspect the boards. the old gal’s been sitting for 30 years - no surprises there!

- – Mr. Tambourine Man (1965). The musical marriage of Dylanesque folk and Beatlesque rock was inevitable in 1965, but it took the Byrds’ chart-topping cover of “Mr. Tambourine Man” to woo the mainstream. Their debut LP contained three more fine Dylan interpolations, and established Gene Clark as a writer of breezier standards containing the seeds of future power pop. Plus, Jim McGuinn’s 12-string Rickenbacker – a quintessential sound in 60s music.
