    @jon Sadly, that helped to finish it off - the risk of cyclists falling in front of a 10mph 1930s railcar gave Derry City Council nightmares they just couldn't deal with.
    So a city that's famed for hills and severe inclines decided that cycling was going to be part of its future. You'll have noticed the massive amount of other cycle-based infrastructure... 🤔

    @jon I thought very little problem but the Council thought otherwise and Sustrans were the novelty of the moment then. As usual, no central direction or momentum so cycling was a buzz for a couple of years and then fizzled. It shouldn't have, but one Greenway was enough to tick the box and the moment passed like so many others in NI.

    During its working lifetime, Loch Skerrow Halt was one of the remotest stations in the country. All that remains now are a couple of platforms, the ruins of the railway workers cottages and the Scots Pine planted to act as a windbreak.

    @idoubtit @nytimes Exactly! An utterly reprehensible character - a vulgar huxter. Andy Nyman might be right when he says there are bigger, more dangerous chancers around but he also recognised the type very easily. Nyman is no mug.
    The NYT's reputation has long been sullied but they seem to have lost their way entirely with a vaudeville hagiography here.
    Who knows why? And increasingly, who cares?
    Newspaper of record? That ship has sailed...
