New video coming tonight, continuing the history of the Galloway Hydro Scheme.
It will cover the building of Clatteringshaws dam and the Glenlee Tunnel, which was the most expensive and dangerous part of the entire construction.
The last video covered the conditions the workforce endured, during the Great Depression, to construct the scheme, and here's a link to it to catch you up!
Here's my wee #history latest video, and it's the second in a series about The Galloway Hydro Scheme.
We're moving on downstream from Loch Doon to Kendoon, Carsfad and Earlstoun stations and their lochs.
During the tough times of the early 1930s, there was no shortage of men prepared to risk the hard and hazardous conditions to work on the building of the Hydro Scheme.
The problem for them was keeping their jobs... https://youtu.be/ru5MxO_5H3g
Beautiful day for a walk and a bit of #filming
This is the Kendoon Surge Tower, part of the Galloway Hydro Scheme in #Galloway. Its nearly 90 years old, and still powering thousands of homes with #renewableEnergy #history#video
And here's the direct YouTube Link to my latest video., featuring the history of the Hydro Scheme, and the problem of what to do with Castle that once belonged to the Bruce's.
I've got myself a wee channel over on @MakerTube !
I've uploaded the first video I made for my channel - A Brief History of Kenmure Castle.
a ruin now, Kenmure Castle has had many illustrious visitors, quite a few foes and more than a few renegade owners.
Here, in brief, is its story:
We stayed with friends in Castle Douglas. Three aims, catching up, getting my partner to the Park Run and running a half marathon (coastal path and road, Kippford-Southness Bay, 1.46). A bad start (it is still more difficult getting into the loch when it is pouring with rain, even though the water will still be as cold in the summer) all achieved. Lovely day eventually. Plus coffee and cakes at the excellent Street Lights cafe.

Celebrating the historic Women of #Galloway with wee #history#videos , this is the full playlist, so far, from my channel.
From the brilliant Dorothèe Pullinger, #engineer of the first, and only, car for women by women, to the charismatic Elspeth Buchan and her #cult following, plus a few #Queens, a #murder, some #artists and some #WitchAccused, it's still a work in progress!
“The corporate media are do everything in their power to undermine George Galloway’s by-election victory – but failing miserably (and laughably). Now, an incredibly awkward video has shown BBC staff holding a markedly uncivil conversation in Rochdale.
At one point, a man is seen pointing at his camera viewer and asking:
Never forget where #Galloway was and what he was doing when they came to trash your democracy and prosperity and remove your freedom of movement and EU citizenship and steal your future.
Reminder: he was blowing Farage on Russian TV and laughing at you.
#Galloway is a card-carrying cnt who got into bed with Farage and supported the Russian embassy’s Brexit and laughed and lined his pockets while they pssed all over UK democracy and lied to the dead queen to take away your EU passport.
He shakes hands with the far right of the Conservative Party.
No amount of right on pro-Palestinian posturing should obscure what he really is.
"You have a chance in the coming weeks to show that you can protest decently, peacefully and with empathy for your fellow citizens" Rishi Sunak
We do not need your patronising speeches. We don't need to show we can do it Mr Sunak we have been doing it for months while you continue to support Israel in its war crimes.

I am not sure Galloway wont be re-elected
Once #Labour cease to be the default "not a tory" option, what reason is there to vote for them?
Maybe another independent or minor party could emerge as a challenger but Galloway will then be the default non-tory choice with a track record pf electoral success
(This is not an endorsement of #galloway he has expressed some hateful views)
@alexanderhay
What the limp, centrist, "grownups" will never accept about this kind of populism is that their policies and their constant failures to deliver for the people is the cause
In this case the Galloway campaign was very heavily centred around #Gaza
Had #labour not been utterly shit on this, #galloway would have lost and his revolting views on social questions wouldnt be an issue
“When people are faced with lots of troubles and they don't know what to do, there's always someone ready to say anything, just to get some power,' said Grimma.”
Terry Pratchett; Diggers #TheBromeliadTrilogy#RochdaleByElection#Galloway
#Labour took a minus 44% swing having suspended their own candidate over comments on #Israel & #Gaza.
#Galloway won by campaigning on Gaza ceasefire discontent and dissatisfaction with Labour's lack of socialist policies mostly, but also campaigned against trans rights wokeness etc in parts of the constituency. Showing a much more sophisticated micro targeting & granular political machine than most independents can ever muster/afford.
Nominally pro-gaza pro-Muslim Galloway also received support from radical islamaphobe, far right white nationalist Nick Griffin. Which makes absolutely no sense what so ever.
Unless you put stock in factoring they are both the sort of extremist divisive agitators that #Moscow & #Putin seeks to support in driving wedges in to democracies.
The sad loss for the people of Rochdale was decent local independent #DavidTully with a normal independents low level election machine and backing only came in second place. After being entirely ignored by mainstream media, as a decent not inflammatory candidate with integrity that doesn't bait clicks.
Galloway, called a divisive grifter by some & regular on #RussiaToday channel, will doubtless continue to get completely outsized media coverage as an 'exciting figure' that generates views. Many politicians and commentators are already using this upset to 'prove' the UK electorate support some version of their personal views.
If nothing else, having that self-serving shitehawk #Galloway (the only man to get elected by attacking Labour for not being antisemitic enough) wanking around Parliament for the next six months might at least have the effect of bringing enough Tory MPs on side for a no-confidence vote just to make it stop.
Starmer is loathsome for many things, but now he's given pro-Putin charlatan, friend of Farage and British unionist Galloway a way back into the political mainstream...
The village of Whithorn in Galloway, famous as the cradle of Christianity in Scotland and amongst the country's oldest continuously occupied settlements, dating back centuries before St Ninian founded a monastery here in the 390s.
