I do believe more users should use there’s a lot that the team and users in general can learn from those in the and clear up misconceptions

damonoutlaw,

@ainmosni I respect your opinion but that is a culture problem which is harder to fix than a technical problem. While you get to enjoy your experience & call out when you see something others weren’t able to simply allow to. Fixing a culture of 11m+ is difficult & why no one would dare say they’re trying to fix cultural problems on big social. With bsky being on the ground level & actively looking to empower people particularly minority women + LGBTQ+ it’s shaping their culture

damonoutlaw,

@ainmosni honestly bro damage by the people maybe worse. As with big social we know their motives. But in these spaces the motives are supposed to be more”pure” so when one encounters those issues it’s actually more damaging

damonoutlaw,

@ainmosni Maybe I didn’t communicate that properly. I was stating that the problem is not technical. The probalem is cultural which is much harder to change.
I don’t disagree with your latter point, I’m of a similar mind. But, the average user doesn’t care about decentralisation. Also, the gatekeeping is impacting ppl negatively like big social. Instead of big companies/CEO’s to blame it falls in the hands of the people who claim to be for the people but clearly aren’t. The damage is the same

damonoutlaw,

@wigbert sure I have offered two other people here but I’ll be sure to get you one as well.

What does “good” coverage of AI mean to you? I wrote about how the disparate views that very smart people have about existential risk are making it hard to calibrate how to cover advancements in artificial intelligence.

https://www.platformer.news/p/why-im-having-trouble-covering-ai

damonoutlaw,

@caseynewton I would like coverage that stops using the blanket term of “AI” I would like people to understand the depths and just how long AI has been a part of our lives

“Proposed Texas Law Wants to Make School Children 'Battlefield' Ready

In response to school shootings, a new bill in Texas would require public schools to install "bleeding stations" and train kids as young as third grade in trauma care.”

This is grotesque.

The United States of America is a war zone.

The children are hostages.

The terrorists are hiding behind the hostages.

The terrorists are the Republicans.

The NRA funds terrorism.

Only you can end this.

damonoutlaw,

@fsinn só children are to young to know about gender but they’re not too young to try to save their classmates from dying? 😐

I’ve been in a good mood today.

Today is the first day in over a year that I haven’t used Mastodon.

No, I’m not saying that Mastodon is “bad” and made me miserable. In fact, Mastodon freed me from Big Social, and for that I’m thankful.

But it’s also true that Mastodon is kind of limiting. And well, I kind of want to spread my wings and fly.

Actually, it’s a compliment to Mastodon that I can still talk to Mastodon while using another service that gives me more joy.

If Mastodon was a walled garden service, I wouldn’t be able to do this.

damonoutlaw,

@atomicpoet I’m actually looking at Calckey this very moment

@ivory I signed up for the beta but it’s telling me I’m on a free trial even though I’m a premium member.

damonoutlaw,

@rodrigoescobar @mark I mean that’s only Hindsight they had a very long run on the bird site, obviously wished it could’ve continued

damonoutlaw,

@mark I know it’s annoying but I think it should be a sign of admiration and respect. So many of us are big fans of your work which is why immediately many of us thought of how great it would be for you guys to make a client app for bsky

Working on improving my Mastodon feed. Who are the essential voices you follow?

I know early experiences for some users have led to a reputation that Mastodon isn’t a welcoming space for Black users and that needs to change.

This person is not a bad person but an uneducated one. Stating how has failed and calling the other instances irrelevant maybe you guys can provide some helpful responses that I can pass along. I’m too blinded by frustration

damonoutlaw,

@nesmb Thanks for the advice. I just wanted to provide accurate info about this place that I could’ve taken back to educate them. I believe in attempting to discuss & trying to educate. But ultimately you’re right

damonoutlaw, to fediverse

I love BlueSky and most of the people are incredible there. But I need to block & mute. So much of that place is like a psycho stalker ex when it comes to Twitter and it’s really creepy now.

damonoutlaw, to random

I’m always inspired by @mekkaokereke posts and the courage in which he sticks himself out there for his beliefs. Just wanted to let you know that I appreciate you

Decentralisation shouldn’t just be about social media. It’s not just some catchphrase it should be a way of life. A way we give power back to the people.

damonoutlaw, to random

@Are0h I’ve heard great things about you brother. Keep up the great work

P.S

I believe antiviral is the way that social media should be. Human behaviour would be dramatically different. Take away likes, followed counts and all of the other metrics. Initially it would cause an uproar as our brains are foreign to it but overtime people would simply “be” online and not in a constant state of performance.

damonoutlaw, to internet

People are in an uproar on as a nazi was causing disruption. People are calling for the bsky team to take a centralised action, some are saying to not even which is the entire point. I’ve pointed out how has handled bad actors but clearly it’s not enough and all of the instances have failed
