@caseynewton to me it means listening to folks like @timnitGebru and @emilymbender that focuses on concrete real world issues. Coverage of rich people worried about AI being smarter than humans is a distraction and a disservice unless it's to highlight how ridiculous these people are.

Policy discussions, union discussions, worker protections, exploitation of English speaking poor countries are all interesting.

To "triage" one must also make a judgement as to which person is salvageable and which is less so or not at all. Basic medical stuff.

Eight-year-olds being told to decide who can be saved and who they must leave to die.

I'm going to say this louder-

EIGHT-YEAR-OLDS. BEING. TOLD. TO. DECIDE. WHO. CAN. BE. SAVED. AND. WHO. THEY. MUST. LEAVE. TO. DIE.

When there are real alternatives, this is sickening.

@oldmanmike I went down a rabbithole on Twitter the other day, and the number of vehemently pro-Putin, anti-human rights (LGBTQIA), racist, White-Supremacist accounts on this one thread was shocking. These are scary people, and they were all Trump-MAGA supporters. Most had “Christian” or “God” references in their profiles. Dangerous times.

@ldmay65 @TonyStark @fsinn one of the things I think gets lost about this being a Texas issue (or Florida or Indiana etc) is that there are cases where lax gun laws in a conservative state are driving gun violence in a state with strict gun laws. Chicago is a great example. Gun laws are strict in Illinois but Chicago is on the border to Indiana. Most guns used in crimes there are bought in Indiana.

Gun crime goes up, GOP exaggerates by how much, points and says, see gun control doesn't work.

As a journalist I'll tell you any worth their damn salt ALSO follow Black women. The best articles I've ever pitched as an assigning editor have come from learning from these fantastic ladies over the years and it usually helps me make sure articles have nuance in places white writers (or editors like myself) would miss.

But yeah, if a platform isn't solid for Black creators, it will stifle its growth 100%

Microsoft has started enforcing number matching when using Microsoft Authenticator app for multi-factor authentication (MFA). This is in response to MFA fatigue, where attackers flood users with authentication requests, and users just approve them to make them go away. With number matching, a user needs to type a matching number, rather than a simple tap or click on approve. This hopefully reduces MFA fatigue attacks.

On Mastodon, go to "Import and Export" and choose "Data Export"

As shown in this screenshot go to the 'CSV' link next to "Follows" and click it to download a CSV file (which can be opened and viewed in Microsoft Excel or a similar program).

Easy.

  1. Download a list (use 'save as') or pick another
  2. Go to Preferences > Import and Export > Import and choose "Domain Blocking List" for import.
  3. Press button

Just like that, you will defederate the worst domains (in my opinion) on the fedi, and inoculate yourself from abuse.

(Check your server is not on this list before importing, feel free to edit the file after downloading and remove entries, too.)
