Genuine question: As a native speaker of American English, when referring to another country by name, should I use the name of the country in the American English pronunciation or the way that locals refer to it?

Specifically, consider Niger. American English pronounces it "Nigh-Jer" (Jer like Jerkey), but I've seen that citizens of Niger say "Knee-jair"

I went with Knee-jair when talking about it in a clip today, but both ways feel like I'm doing something wrong idk

Something notable about the “X/Twitter added a 5 second delay on links to websites Musk doesn’t like” story is that it’s well understood in the tech industry that every second matters for retention.

You lose about half of your would-be traffic if your link doesn’t “load” within 3 seconds.

They’re leveraging a dark pattern to reduce traffic at scale.

That is the kind of thing that should be illegal to do as a massive platform. Twisting the web.

Is it theoretically possible or even reasonable to imagine phones or devices being able to lip read?

Horrifying security implications aside, wondering if something like apples Face ID infrared scanning or whatever could accurately enough lip read for something like silently dictating text.

Am I missing something or is there still not a good way to send large (>10gb) files easily?

Like, easily for non-techy folk. I need to send large video files to people now and again, and I want to be able to just upload and share a link.

Most object storage options have filesize limits or slow upload speeds.

Fastest option I've found is to spin up a DO droplet, scp my file to some folder, then host an http server to share a link. Cheap and fast networking.

Any better options?

lol I just got a scam email from someone claiming they’ve hacked my accounts and their proof is that they sent me the scam email from my own email address

(Reminder to non-tech-folk that it’s fairly trivial to fake sending an email as someone else)

Anyway this scam would have caused me to maybe do a double take if it weren’t using an email address that is literally impossible to send mail from anymore. It’s a fwd-only email address and I couldn’t send from it if I wanted to
