Ok, I caved and bought that $32 “instant” digital camera that prints on thermal paper.

It’s a weird and wonderful shitty camera. The printer is pretty good, using error diffusion dithering but a bit slow. It’s apparently a 12MP camera that can also do 1080p video on the included 32GB SD card. Obs targeted at kids with the built in filters but there’s something about the immediateness that’s fun about it. Wonder how hackable it is?

I went for a short walk on today and bumped into Amos Goldbaum, a local muralist whose distinct line art can be seen all over . I'm going to grab my microphone, then come back up the hill for a quick interview with him. Anything you'd like me to ask Amos about his work? Check out his site here: https://www.amosgoldbaum.com/

A closer look at a finished mural by Amos. The art is on a large concrete wall. The background is a dark grey, the art is a light blue. The art is painted in a consistent line width with no shading or fills. It shows buildings and landmarks in San Francisco and on Bernal Hill.

@docpop totally understood, it has to be exhausting to work all day on art and then also spend so much time posting about it on all the socials. 🥵

Since I don’t use Instagram, I just wish there were a way I could follow his work here like I used to on Twitter. Maybe ask if he has a blog (RSS) or newsletter that people can subscribe to?

I got an untested SyQuest 88MB removable SCSI drive and some 88MB cartridges are coming soon. I had one of these in the past so this scratching a retro itch for me.

Anyone have modern experience with them? How likely is the drive to work? Do they always fail over time, have known issues, etc?

TIL that "-dale" is an old English word for a peaceful valley. I have worked in Rosedale, Ridgedale, and Brookdale Center malls in Minneapolis and never thought about what the names meant. I guess the Placedale name is sort of a Minnesota thing too.

Drivers running red lights or driving into bike lanes are common occurrences all along . We need physical changes to our streets to make them safe for everyone.

I support the BetterValencia.com plan. Add curbside protected bike lanes and take steps to pedestrianize Valencia Street.

Very glad Santa Clara’s sports team lost the game because it means less fireworks, but we’re getting still getting some fireworks. Enzo is getting spoon fed ice cream for being so brave ❤️

@DemocracySpot they did close some freeway exits, which likely helped… but sadly there were still inconsiderate people who shot off fireworks anyhow. 🤬

Tonight, we played a few games of Nego, a strategy game with cats. The rules are very simple, but there are some nice twists. The design of the physical pieces was our favorite part.

The game was designed by Yuka Morii, a Japanese clay artist and Pokemon illustrator.

I enjoyed it, but my partner felt it was boring. We both felt the game sort of plays itself as spaces become more limited. We both like it as a piece of art, though. The game is available here: https://www.japantrendshop.com/nego-cats-board-game-p-8267.html
