@BrodieOnLinux all jokes aside, I've been running it on my desktop and laptop since release and it's been perfectly fine. Don't use polonium tho, that's still half broken
@oblomov@Tusky from the play store or fdroid? it might be related to the presence/absence of google services. I have it from fdroid and I haven't noticed this issue
There is a rumor that Valve is working on a similar device such as Meta Quest, but with #SteamDeck OS on it. I am not holding my breath, but I kind of wish it would be true. The Quest doesn't work on #Linux at all.
Saw on github that there are a kit if repository called "dotfile"... What i understand, reading online, is that you upload your dotfiles so, for some reason you distro hop or have a new pc, you can download those files and you have the previous configuration of the system... right?
@bonaccolto90 if you move between distros or between different PCs, and you want to keep it all in sync.
There are various ways to automate this, using git is already 90% of the way there, on top of that you can use custom scripts or tools like GNU stow to "install" the dotfiles in the appropriate places
Anyway, as I mentioned recently, I have a new workstation that finally allows me to test our code using all three backends (#CUDA, #ROCm/#HIP and #CPU w/ #OpeMP) thanks to having an #AMD#Ryzen processor with an integrated #GPU in addition to a discrete #NVIDIA GPU.
Of course the iGPU is massively underpowered compared to the high-end dGPU workhorse, but I would expect it to outperform the CPU on most workloads.
And this is where things get interesting.
@giuseppebilotta to be fair in graphics we have dxvk/vkd3d re-implementing dx9 to 12 in vulakn and doing quite an excellent job at that. Of course they weren't perfect from day one but nowadays it's mostly 1:1 if not better sometimes. So maybe if there's enough interest this could actually become good.
Of course to attract the most attention it should be a completely vendor agnostic spec just like vulkan, as I don't think a big enough community will gather around what is essentially "amd cuda"
It's sad to see a FOSS project look to add (user-controlled!) telemetry and the first thing the community says is "what, so a corporation can mine our data?"
Not all telemetry is bad. Our view of it is just tainted because of its abuse by companies.
Strip personal information, ask the user, and aggregate it.
It's genuinely useful information for developers to have. It's far easier to get information on bugs like this than it is to wait on an issue tracker. You can also see what most people are interested in - performance, workflow, features, etc.
@orowith2os the problem is that it's proposed to be opt-out. The excuse is that "only the most hardcore fedora fans would opt-in". If that's the case then you know people don't want to have their data collected, as anonymized as it might be.
I'm sorry if you think it's hilarious, but I don't want telemetry on my computer, even just cause I don't want it to randomly connect to remote endpoints without my explicit consent.
It's slightly more tolerable for apps, as you need to start them. An OS level telemetry system feels invasive.
I understand it's useful, and I won't stop using fedora, but the fact remains that I don't like this. I feel like I'm allowed to express my dissent.
@cassidy@orowith2os The fact that it's opt-out means that it's just one more box I need to remember to tick, and I already have too many of those. Plus it exploits the fact that most people simply don't read and click through installers like automatons. I'm not saying this behavior is good or justified, but it's just what happens, and exploiting it feels wrong.
Today in Italy started a test for the national alert system, where at 12:00 we should receive those alerts and answer a survey... My aunt, at the time, was playing with crossword on her phone... When she received the alert, her first response was "WTF is this? Why did it appear out of nowhere? Just let me play my crosswords, get out of here"... She leaves me without words...and then I laughed so hard that I felt light-headed 🤣 thank God it was only a test!
@gregorni it can be, it has various profiles for different hardware and toggleable components. The FOSS VR ecosystem is still young and moving fast, rex2 can be used as a tool for just using the stack, in its current state, and at the same time to set it up for hacking on it.
