For a bit of Sunday happiness & silliness: tell me about some a book you've recently excitedly told someone about and why!

I've talked about Erin Meyer's "Culture Map" because it opened my eye to a lot of intercultural interactions I have in both, my everyday and my work life.

And about Marcin Wicha's "Things I Didn't Throw Out" because it made me laugh and cry at the same time + made me fall in love with Daunt books because I would not have found out about the book without them.

I recently told my family and friends about The Warrior Queen by Joanna Arman.
It's about one of the queens (I'm not pro royalist by any means) of this land, pre-England, and how she had the guts to take over after her husband died, even in the face of "women can't rule!". Little is known about her and she was almost written out of history.

I like my photos, but feel a bit of a fraud posting them. I saw only faint grey wisps of mist; it was my 's that imbued that mist with colour and shape.
Is it deceptive to distort reality with these photos?
Or (at least on occasion) are phone cameras marvelous tools, like telescopes, macro lenses, or infrared filters, which can actually show us new ways of seeing?

In the most glorious "fuck you" I have seen in a while, you know the book that Cumberland City Council banned because they're homophobic bigots - Holly Duhig's "A focus on Same Sex Parents"? Well, the publisher, BookLife Publishing, have made a PDF version of the book available for free.

Sure be a shame if it was shared far and wide now, wouldn't it?

'Scavengers Reign' is one of the best shows I've ever seen. HBO โ€“oops, sorry, 'Max'โ€“ killing it is so dumb. I don't trust much more in this sense, but if the show can have a second life there then so be it. While season 1 was pretty self-contained, I really want to keep exploring this fascinating world.

I tried taking a couple of photos but my phone camera is rubbish ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ Didn't have my other camera on me ๐Ÿ™„

It was stunning though, even just with eyes. Light greenish, white-ish streaks, waves and curls emanating outwards, directly above us. I'm so happy I got to see it.

Hoping to try again tonight ๐Ÿคž

Suddenly woke up (02:30 here) and checked the Aurora Watch app and it showed a huge red line! So took a walk with OH along the footpath and for the first time in our lives for either of us, we saw the aurora!

My rubbishy phone didn't pick up any of it but my eyes did and I'm so happy! I just never expected to see it this far south (East Anglia, UK). It's beautiful!

Easily the most beautiful thing I've ever seen ๐Ÿค—๐ŸŒž

On a fait avec les moyens du bord (= Belore qui gambade en pyjama dans les hautes herbes tout en dรฉpliant son trรฉpied dans le noir), mais je suis content du rรฉsultat.
En fait je suis surtout content d'avoir vu รงa pour la premiรจre fois.

Avec une vue un peu plus dรฉgagรฉe, l'aurore est trรจs nette, avec des traits fins comme un voile pourpre entre deux lueurs vertes.
Photo au format carrรฉ prise ร  la verticale, entre les cimes d'arbres le ciel รฉtoilรฉ est teintรฉ de rose, et des lignes plus claires semblent converger vers le centre de l'image.
Toujours ร  la verticale, photo au format classique du ciel teintรฉ avec des variations de violet et de vert.

I liked people posting annoying commentary as quote-tweets a lot better than when they do it in comments. Quotes were easier to ignore - because it felt that they were meant for their followers, not for me to react to and to manage (esp. if I don't want to be flooded with notifications). Can't wait for the feature.

(Because this is : you may feel different about this. It is obviously fine. Be civil, don't mansplain - even if you are not a man.)
