I love adding new signs to the San Francisco Ghost Sign Map, but I especially like adding "secret" signs. These are the signs that were painted immediately after the earthquake and hidden away in alleys and backyards by successive ways of new construction. Due to an intrepid follower who spends a lot of time on rooftops, we've just added three new secret signs on 2nd Street between Stevenson and Jessie. Hooray!

I just added EIGHTEEN new signs to the San Francisco Ghost Sign Mapping Project -- including some new Lipton Tea window signs in the Mission and a fabulous secret Carnation sign on Nob Hill.

I love the idea of modern mythology. Stories don't have to be ancient to be valid. As long as people keep telling them, and contemplating them, they become myths. So here's me keeping the tradition alive, telling a popular, modern Pagan mythology about the Spring Equinox:

Ostara, Goddess of the Dawn, was walking through the woods on the morning of the equinox. She was giving her blessing to all the growing buds of life beneath the soil, when an injured bird fell from the sky at her feet.
She was not able to heal the poor bird's delicate wing, and she transformed it into a hare so that it would be able to live on the ground. The bird was thankful to survive, and went along on its way.

The hare soon discovered that although it was now a rabbit, it still laid eggs as if it were a bird. Embarrassed, it hid the eggs in the woods where the local children would find them, and they too would receive the blessings of the Goddess.

@Cat_LeFey I often think about how modern cryptids are the seed material for future mythologies. How given the right nurturing, they could sprout into tales that could survive a thousand years.

Strange request -- are there any physical locations in the Bay Area that sell little vials or lockets of gold dust? Trying to source some elements for an art piece on the Gold Rush.

Good news: the triage appointment for my autism assessment came.

Bad news: they want me to confirm but haven't provided any information on how to do that.

It's almost like they don't want you to be able to confirm or get to the appointment...

With the shy cat home and NYE fireworks abounding we've locked all five cats in the house for the indefinite future. Which means going from 1 litterbox to LOTS of litterboxes. THIS IS WHERE MY GRAVEST MISTAKE WAS MADE. I found a bottle of cat attract spray in a corner and sprayed it all over the new boxes to get everyone acclimated. Que two of the five cats rolling around in the litter and humping the box. This is TERRIBLE. 😭

Switching gears and working on Pixelated Vermeer No5 -- Woman with a Lute. This will be a challenge! And definitely the most abstract piece in the series. She's relatively tiny and the color palette is so limited. Oh well! Only time will tell how the final product turns out.

First iteration of Girl with a Red Hat. I'm taking a slightly different tactic with Vermeer's portraits vs his genre paintings. The next iteration will involve pinning the pearl grid to the final wood panel. But instead of stopping there, I'm going to fill in and deconstruct the grid so the image is softer and more organic. More painterly, less computer generated. We'll see how the next two iterations go!

So does anyone else kinda not like ? Like, it’s a nice and easy way to begin a and it seems a lot of my friends also use it, the problem is instead of getting real people to do the voices they use text-to speech, which means you often do not get the correct . Like, often you get both a normal speed and a slow speed recordings of the pronunciation to pick from, and the two versions will often use completely different voices that not only have diffent quality, but also very different despite being the same words or sentences. It seems like the wrong way to learn a language. Also, what is up with the ? @actuallyautistic

@innervisioner @actuallyautistic @NeurodivergentBC I'm an immigrant trying to adjust to life/language in a new country & despise Duolingo. I like the gamification, but combined with the useless phrases & lack of explanation it's actively harmful to how I learn. I can't intellectually absorb & functionally use the knowledge. It's just contextual muscle memory, like recalling the steps to winning a videogame or something.
