There is a misconception that you need to register on every server to see posts and follow users from other servers in the Fediverse. This is a myth.

You only need one account to follow and interact with users and see posts from other servers. The only time you want to create another account if you want an alt-account to separate activities from your main account.

For most users, one main account is enough.

@chikorita157 and I are accepting to moderate Sakurajima Social for the long term. Some of our community members may recall that I was originally here as a Quality Assurance (QA) Technician, but I decided to help out with moderating on this instance's open beta after the first wave of Mastodon Social . I'm afraid that my job here is only temporary, and as a college student, I will be starting summer classes on June 5th, meaning that I won't be able to do much moderation during that time.

If you would like to be a moderator at Sakurajima Social, please DM @chikorita157; you will need to meet the following requirements:

  1. You cannot have an account on a blocked instance.

  2. You must have been on the for at least one calendar month (you can calculate the earliest date you can apply today here; be sure to press Today before you press Calculate New Date).

Although not a requirement, it is recommended that you have experience being a moderator, you and @chikorita157 are mutual followers, and you have experience with / / (we accept mods who do not have experience on these platforms, but it will be harder to learn how to use it, especially with some of the features being potentially. overwhelming).

When I signed up to become a moderator, I thought a flood of good fedizens signing up. I'm actually surprised that only a few users have signed up so far, which is a good thing because we don't have any instance moderators who can moderate this instance long-term.

Just because it's the weekend or evening, cannot stop looking at the TLs and looking out for reports every now and then unless they have been relieved of their duties. Just a heads up: the content below is not me gloating; the content below is my experience with the and how it relates to this tip.

On this alt, I remember seeing a DM from the Doge AI crypto spammers, and it was relatively late in the evening; I sounded the alarm, and Sakurajima was able to lock down shortly after. If I wasn't online that evening, I would have missed the DM, meaning I wouldn't have sounded the alarm, and @chikorita157 and the rest of our team wouldn't have been able to respond as quickly as they did. That is why it is important to have at least one mod/admin periodically check the control panel.

Man, I cannot believe how I got up this morning. I didn't realize it was already 8:44 in the morning until I looked at my phone, and there was a lot of cloud cover, so I couldn't even see the sun come out. Although I am not required to be active for my moderation job, I felt bad because I was late on mod duty, which is not a good first impression for a new .

Do you find the default Calckey UI too cluttered. The classic mode resembles Twitter more and you can change to it with these simple teps.

  1. Click the three dots (more) in the side bar and click Layouts
  2. Click Classic

Now the interface should resemble Twitter. Also, you can use Deck layout to make it look like Mastodon’s Advanced Mode or like Tweetdeck where you can have multiple columns, allowing you to view multiple timelines, notifications, and put up widgets.

Man.. I cannot believe how many instances on the are powered by . I have my instance cloud view open, and I have detected some Mastodon, Foundkey, Calckey, and Friendica instances from most common to least common in that order, and I'm starting to get concerned about Mastodon gGmbH's hold onto the fediverse; yes, Mastodon has really made the fediverse possible, but the more centralized the fediverse becomes, the more chances of it becoming a single point of failure.

The issue about the bug where accounts from a.gup.pe cannot be followed has been https://codeberg.org/calckey/calckey/issues/10002#issuecomment-904240 because the bug is not with Calckey; a.gup.pe is not federating securely with other servers, and Calckey requires a secure handshake between it and another server on the fediverse.

I understand how this will affect the community at Sakurajima.
