Day 13 of finished, and as usual it's probably a smidge overcomplicated. However, still looks pretty good to me and gets the right answers so calling it done.

Oh yeah, Day 5...part two is kicking my ass in about every way possible. Think I'm going to take a break for a bit then re-re-rethink the solution. Friggin' almanacs...

Getting closer to releasing the first version of the new Handbrake CLI module. The schema was over 1,600 lines, but once that was done, everything went pretty smoothly. Still need to connect this to the server as a proper server module, but gotta do the standalone one first that does the work.

There is something so innocent and pure about the shock, betrayal and wonder that certain guys emote when they find out about bun-stuffers.

I have somehow witnessed multiple dudes finding out about this-- and I'm always mystified that they think anyone could have a bun so huge without hair down to their hip.

jamesthebard,

@futurebird I honestly had no idea, and I'm going with awesome...makes a heluva lot more sense than my original thought of magic.

Almost done with the GameBoy Advance. Got all of the parts in from Boxy Pixel and the install was fairly smooth overall. I did have the anodized buttons, but they were far to clunky to really enjoy while playing games. Those got replaced with new black buttons, new silicone inserts (also black) and the feel is so much better. The screen is now a backlit IPS version and looks really nice. Still need to get the lens replaced, but overall: very happy with the result.

A revamped GameBoy Advance with a pinkish purple anodized aluminum shell, black buttons, and a new backlit IPS screen. The back of the shell no longer has a battery opening as the AA batteries have been replaced with a 2,000 mAh battery and a USB-C charger.
The GameBoy Advance turned on showing the backlit screen. The game is

After a few tweaks, I've pushed the code for the sisyphus-ffmpeg wrapper to Github. I still need to verify the output mapping as I think the per-stream specifiers work a smidge differently than I think they do. Won't be a code change, but there would be a slight documentation change.

https://github.com/JamesTheBard/sisyphus-ffmpeg

jamesthebard,

@briandunaway I still need to add a wee-bit more documentation as there is a MediaInfo class that can list streams in a given file to make things a bit easier. I still need to run a few test encodes to make sure everything is being passed correctly, but I'm pretty satisfied with it.

If “save scumming” isn’t a thing we’re supposed to do then take away my save slots 🤷‍♂️

Pfft, i will reload whenever I want. Anyone who argues otherwise on how to play games is a tool trying to suck away your fun. Ignore ‘em.

jamesthebard,

@gamingonlinux 100% this. I will say I'm slightly biased as I'm 100% of the opinion that "if the game lets you do it, then you should absolutely do it." Of course, I do say this as a speedrunner, so YMMV.

Holy crap, Jellyfin is so friggin' hard to like. However, a secret: if you're using the Jellyfin AndroidTV client, save yourself some heartache and grab an external video player like Vimu. It's $3, and has none of the flaws of ExoPlayer or LibVLC on the platform and you can have Jellyfin just use that to play videos.

jamesthebard,

@JSkier ExoPlayer on anything with ASS/SSA subtitles is a train wreck, also comes with a severe delay on even starting playback (best case scenario with that content is ~5 to ~15 seconds). LibVLC solves that ASS/SSA subtitle issue and is instantaneous playing back content, but as soon as it encounters those subtitles, you either get microstuttering (annoying) or full on major stuttering for the slightly more complicated ones.

jamesthebard,

@JSkier It's kinda unfair as Plex has so many issues that aren't being addressed (and so many things that are being addressed/added that no one really wants) to include subtitles, but the workarounds are fairly simple but very annoying. However, I'm very happy with the current configuration and Jellyfin is doing some work as we speak. Next will be to test out hardware transcoding support once I can figure out where to install a GPU in the ESXi cluster...lol

jamesthebard,

@JSkier I've been looking for an alternative for awhile, keeping an eye on Jellyfin and Emby as they matured, but both were lacking in some of the features I was looking for. However, everything is working pretty well at the moment and I might just shut down the Plex server and pass the Quadro RTX 4000 over to Jellyfin if it continues to work well.

Does your computer have a CD/DVD drive in it currently?

Please BOOST for maximum exposure to the

jamesthebard,

@cliffwade I have a BD/DVD drive in a 5.25" USB enclosure that I break out when I need to access optical media or backup/archive videos. My computer case doesn't even support 5.25" drives...

Still messy, but getting the new computer up and running. Once that's good, I'll go ahead and clean up everything then start taking the SMS apart and get started...

jamesthebard,

@schizanon I picked up a SER6 awhile back for a virtualization server and was really impressed with the quality and the price. Amazon decided to put the SER6 on sale for less than $500 and decided to grab another one. Replaced the SSD and decided to use it on the electronics workbench. Definitely agree, great little computer!

Hrmm, I've started reading the docs for the Zilog Z80 CPU and boy is it a bit more beefy than the MOS6502. I mean, it isn't messing around. Kinda getting an itch to maybe do some programming on this...plus, I could always use the Sega Master System to verify code against assuming I start working on another emulator...

New coffee pot came in and it's about as basic as it gets...made a test run of coffee and it will definitely get the job done. Features include:

  • Makes coffee

I saw someone argue that shitposters can't succeed on Mastodon because their posts won't go viral due to the lack of an algorithm.

As a counterpoint to their belief I would like to introduce exhibit A, whatever the hell this account is.

jamesthebard,

@lowqualityfacts This is some pretty solid evidence.

just found out the <a name="myanchor"> named anchor HTML tag was deprecated in........ 2014

aside from
<html>
<body bgcolor=black>
</body>
</html>

it was one of the first html tags burned into my 13 year old skull. RIP 😿

jamesthebard,

@vga256 No one tells me what old stuff I toss into my HTML...you can pry my blink and marquee tags from my cold, dead, Geocities-stained hands...

That's right, new console, new games to play. Found a Master System at the local gaming store and decided that it deserved a new home. Works perfectly, but now I need to order capacitors to get it recapped and to ensure it stays in proper working order. Also, maybe see if I can get some RGB out as well...first recap though.

jamesthebard,

@wiredfire I grew up with an NES, so this is a new adventure for me! I'm a huge fan of emulation (FPGA/software) and can completely understand on that one. I'll start tracking down the Sonic games because I'm a huge fan, and if you've got recommendations I'm definitely glad to hear them!

jamesthebard,

@vga256 So much love from everyone, I feel like I've missed out on something special up until this point. So excited to expand my library and play games on the SMS.

jamesthebard,

@wiredfire Looks like I've got some work to do now...lol. Thanks for the list!

jamesthebard,

@vga256 The console, games, controller were all cheaper than Chrono Trigger (SNES) or *Symphony of the Night (PS1) *and it makes me cry on the inside. Hell, the prices for just FF3 (SNES) was over $350 which is criminal.

jamesthebard,

@vga256 My copy was in stellar condition, went ahead and dumped the saves off the cart, replaced the battery and capacitors, pushed the saves back onto the cart. Fired up the cart and found that the previous owner had kept the original names for the characters except for Frog who was named EYES for some odd reason...laughed my ass off.
