So I started playing Genshin Impact a few days ago, mainly due to a friend of mine being really hardcore about it and wanting to play with them a bit and have another game to play together.

Still only a few hours in, my adventure rank is currently 9 and I think it takes level 16 to unlock multiplayer. To this point, I'm actually kind of enjoying chilling out and exploring around for treasure chests and such.

The game is obviously really trying hard to get you to part with your cash especially with the whole gacha aspect of earning new characters through straight up gambling. It's a bit of a shock after last playing Phantasy Star Online 2 which was probably on the other extreme in terms of fairness where you essentially only paid to get some quality-of-life upgrades like more item storage.

It's pretty, it's large and there's a ton to explore, and since I have zero intent on ever dropping a dime on it, I'm quite happy with the experience of playing it so far.

For what it's worth, it also runs extremely well on the ROG Ally at the standard settings at 1080p, which is how I am playing it. I've heard that it can be a bit rough running on the Steam Deck, but can't say I've tried it there myself.

Looks like Team17 are having a round of layoffs, yet more layoffs in gamedev these days. This is 2 weeks after they just announced a 31% increase in revenues year over year.

A bit late to this particular party but just found this interesting PC fan remake of Zelda II which also adds some modern features like full on widescreen support. Plays really well too. Also playable on and

I'll probably post more of these playable fangames as I find them.

For Wipeout fans out there who may not have heard about this already, there's a webgl port of the original Wipeout game using the leaked source code that came out last year. The author of this webgl version is purposely attempting to get Sony to see there are people who want the original to be playable on newer consoles again and wants to help work on a rerelease/remake.

Read about his efforts working on this here: https://phoboslab.org/log/2023/08/rewriting-wipeout

You can play it here: https://phoboslab.org/wipegame/

He also mentions the Phantom Edition port that you should give a shot as well.

EDIT: Holy hell, the unnamed port he mentions in his blog thread has splitscreen multiplayer!

@jay@toot.zerojay.com avatar

Decided to sit down and try to learn despite the fact that I don't have any real need for it on my little home server. Still, it's been interesting and - I won't lie - a bit frustrating at times. It's very much like using a chainsaw to butter my bread for my use case, but I had a nice feeling of satisfaction when I succeeded in getting set up through it. I've had some odd issues with Docker failing to launch certain containers through containerd that I have not been able to figure out, however.

I was putting thought into maybe redoing my server setup with kubernetes but I sincerely worry that I'll run into this same containerd issue with some of my other apps.

As a casual F1 fan living in Montreal, it's kind of neat being in a place that hosts an F1 race.

On the other hand, as someone that lives half a block away from the Decarie Expressway, you can hear at least one asshole doing double the speed limit every 10 minutes during F1 weekend.

It's been interesting watching the meta discussion on the about and whether instances should pre-emptively defederate from them or not, why federating with them could potentially be bad for your users' data, etc....

But I think there's a reason to defederate that I have not seen put out there at all yet to this point.

Instagram is easily - by a country mile - the most brain-dead, vapid form of social media on the planet. Instagram influencers and wannabe influencers are exactly the kinds of people I do not want to hear thoughts from. And if you think the occasional spam fighting is a pain now, just wait until Threads starts federating.

The big reveal for one of the games I've been working on for a little while is happening in about 40 minutes. Excited to see it and what the reaction is going to be. (Yeah, I haven't seen the trailer internally myself yet.) You can find that happening over here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vovkzbtYBC8

Rogers sent me an offer to renew my cell phone plan.

For $10 more per month, they'll give me 30GB of data taking me to 50GB a month. Pretty decent deal.

My wife has 7GB of monthly data. They offered her 120GB for $17 more.

One hundred twenty!

Dear , why does blocking a user still allow them to see and interact with your messages on servers?

As a game developer that's out there in the public a bit, it's frustrating that we can just be endlessly harassed on servers and there's literally nothing we can do about it except block people or leave the server... which they can see happen and that therefore just opens you up to further harassment since they can still see your messages.

It really feels like the blocking implementation was handled by people who have never been on the receiving end of online attacks. What a shame.

Hi.

It appears that after being stuck within 5 pounds of my lowest weight for the past 2 months or so, I've started dropping again. 278.6lbs now, my first time under 280. Again, we were expecting that I would level off at 300lbs, so this is great news. 261 pounds down total since the start of this journey.

But even ignoring the number, my body has continued to change. I bought this shirt last year partially to judge the quality of the shirts on Aliexpress before I go nuts buying game shirts. But I also bought it as a goal, knowing it wouldn't fit me at the time. Today, it fit me well enough to wear it out for the first time. Every time I go to pick up the shirt, my brain says "there is no way I could ever wear this" and I am shocked by how small it is... and yet... this.

I'm terrible at the selfie thing but I think I'm pretty happy with this at 44 years old.

Hope you're all doing well.

I jumped into playing Baldur's Gate 3 with 3 friends. After going through the character creation 3 times because someone hit the back button a few too many times forcing us all to restart... once I got into the game... well, it's one of the most boring things I've ever played.

I had really hoped it would play like the old action RPG style games previously but no... it's a boring turn-based slog where almost every attack misses and just... I have zero patience for this at all.

It's a shame because it's clear a lot of love was put into it, but it's just not for me.
