So I restarted my Discord client and got notified that I can switch to a proper username without the discriminator (the numbers after the username). I was able to get my prefered username and within about 2 hours, I have started getting harassed by a guy that wanted it. His account was created 2 months ago, mine was created September 2015.

So yeah, this whole Discord username switch is going to be a complete clusterfuck, be prepared!

A bit late to this particular party but just found this interesting PC fan remake of Zelda II which also adds some modern features like full on widescreen support. Plays really well too. Also playable on and

I'll probably post more of these playable fangames as I find them.

Perhaps one of the most inventive ROM hacks I've seen, which sounds really simple but has all sorts of interesting implications. What if we gave Mario in Mario 64 a shotgun?

For Wipeout fans out there who may not have heard about this already, there's a webgl port of the original Wipeout game using the leaked source code that came out last year. The author of this webgl version is purposely attempting to get Sony to see there are people who want the original to be playable on newer consoles again and wants to help work on a rerelease/remake.

Read about his efforts working on this here: https://phoboslab.org/log/2023/08/rewriting-wipeout

You can play it here: https://phoboslab.org/wipegame/

He also mentions the Phantom Edition port that you should give a shot as well.

EDIT: Holy hell, the unnamed port he mentions in his blog thread has splitscreen multiplayer!

It's been interesting watching the meta discussion on the about and whether instances should pre-emptively defederate from them or not, why federating with them could potentially be bad for your users' data, etc....

But I think there's a reason to defederate that I have not seen put out there at all yet to this point.

Instagram is easily - by a country mile - the most brain-dead, vapid form of social media on the planet. Instagram influencers and wannabe influencers are exactly the kinds of people I do not want to hear thoughts from. And if you think the occasional spam fighting is a pain now, just wait until Threads starts federating.

I love the idea of a Definitive Edition of Rock N' Roll Racing, but there's a Russian hack of the Genesis version of the game that is so much more interesting and well done. 16:9 support is nice but the hack adds 4 more cars per race and just... so so so much more.

Monday morning, in game development studios around the world, game designers will walk into a meeting and say simply, "it'll be Palworld but with emergent gameplay!" and everyone will give a thumbs up, pat him on the back and it'll get canned in 3 weeks.

So apparently there's some api called fedicrawl that some instances out there are using to catalog and tag instances they don't like, I suppose in retaliation to the use of the fediblock tag. Someone out there realllly does not like me, lol.

Here's a list of the things they tagged me as and the link they used as the receipt, which is me reporting a spam bot?!

I post about games, game development, arcade stuff... so this is hilarious to me.

The irony of Reddit's CEO bitching about Reddit app creators "making millions" off of Reddit's content while making millions off of nothing but user-created content for a decade.

I am Jack's complete lack of self-awareness.

So I started playing Genshin Impact a few days ago, mainly due to a friend of mine being really hardcore about it and wanting to play with them a bit and have another game to play together.

Still only a few hours in, my adventure rank is currently 9 and I think it takes level 16 to unlock multiplayer. To this point, I'm actually kind of enjoying chilling out and exploring around for treasure chests and such.

The game is obviously really trying hard to get you to part with your cash especially with the whole gacha aspect of earning new characters through straight up gambling. It's a bit of a shock after last playing Phantasy Star Online 2 which was probably on the other extreme in terms of fairness where you essentially only paid to get some quality-of-life upgrades like more item storage.

It's pretty, it's large and there's a ton to explore, and since I have zero intent on ever dropping a dime on it, I'm quite happy with the experience of playing it so far.

For what it's worth, it also runs extremely well on the ROG Ally at the standard settings at 1080p, which is how I am playing it. I've heard that it can be a bit rough running on the Steam Deck, but can't say I've tried it there myself.

I really kind of feel bad for @Gargron in a way. Seems like almost anytime I see him post the most innocuous opinion on anything about Mastodon and its future, I see all sorts of crazy hot takes afterwards that really, really clearly misrepresent what he's saying.

It's so strange to see so many people here default to the most negative reading of quite literally everything he says when he's done more or less the opposite and has shown that he's been willing to accept what the people want, as evidenced by his changed stance on quote posts and such.
