To celebrate Towel Day, here is a special treat for fans of Douglas Adams.
Around 1994 I had a chance to see Adams live when he gave a reading in Munich. It was a fun evening with him being in a great mood.
Now several years ago I found a recording of that evening which was in a sub-folder of a totally different audio book. This recording seems to be completely unknown online with zero search results...

Probably long overdue, but after my (great) experience at #pyconus I decided to become a PSF member today. If you value something, support it. The default fee is $99 USD, but they recently created a sliding scale to make it more accessible across the world.
Last week I had the honor of accepting the 2024 Helmut Schmidt Future Prize
Instead of a traditional speech, I gave this talk on the history of AI, the business of surveillance, & why the use of AI "ad targeting for killing" in Gaza should be illegal👇
Is your throat a little scratchy from talking excitedly to more people in two days than you usually do in a month? Or is it Covid? We have free rapid tests in the staff office (room 306) if you want to make sure you know the answer. #PyConUS
We just raised over SIXTY THOUSAND DOLLARS in the annual PyLadies auction at #PyConUS ‼️‼️holy moly that is more than ever before 🤯 Thank you to all the donors and winners - we had so much fun and can’t wait to turn around and give back every penny to lifting up our fellow PyLadies 💕
Join us today (May 18th, 2024) at the Open Space "conda and friends" at PyCon US 2024, 10-11 am, in room 308 of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Whether you are a maintainer, a user, or simply curious to learn more about conda and related projects, members of the conda community are happy to chat!
In my first few moments at pycon I ran into some of my conda friends & was quickly reminded of why this conference is so powerful. Python is more than a programming language. It's a community of people who I can geek out with about the most obscure topics. I belong. People care. They care a lot about their work. They care about helping each other learn. While this is a tech conference, it's really people that make python the vibrant communty that it is.#pyconus#postcardsfrompycon@pyOpenSci
Very very jazzed to hear about @kjaymiller and his work founding Black #Python Devs. As we know “I came for the language but stayed for the community” so let’s keep pushing the envelope of making our community look like US! 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍
@kjaymiller is laying down some real talk about what it’s like to be Black in the Python community. I suspect it’s uncomfortable for some white people to hear — it certainly is for me.
If I can offer some advice: I think it’s important to sit with that discomfort, not push it away or try to forget it. Let it spur us not to rest on our laurels, and continue to try to do better.
“It is not your duty to finish the work, but neither are you at liberty to neglect it.”
The reality and the intention don't matter as much as the perception when you are trying to make your community more accessible. Jay Miller on "trying" at #PyConUS#bpdxpycon
