I want to get more into reading #scifi ...but I do not currently know which book(s) might be interesting to me - not deep into the #scifi ecosystem at all.

Is there something you guys would recommend?
I specifically like topics about aliens and space in general (I know, this might be too broad)

Any suggestion is welcome 😎

Fellow #Linux #FOSS gamers:

What #games can you recommend on #Linux in general? (Native is prefered)
Either via #Steam or #FOSS - both is fine. 😎

Currently playing with a friend of mine. Can totally recommend the game for all gamers out there. Loads of fun playing with a friend(s)! (Action packed with many comedic elements)
Also: One does not need a monster of a machine to play it.

xv6 for sure is a great resource for someone wanting to dive into 😎

The code is simple and quite easy to follow - for the most part. One still needs to dig into internals for sure. But, the size is not intimidating.

For anyone looking for a stable and easy to use #DE (Desktop Environment) that just works: #Xfce

Give it a try! 😎

The #Xfce project and all it's dev's and maintainers do a great job at producing a working desktop that is a breeze to use. :xfce:

I can for sure live with that power usage. 😎

Cool #Python module to make reuqests over #Tor :python:

Let's see how that will go.
I've got a USB Fan here that I will somehow mod onto the I'm using to further cool it down (Not that it get's too hot - just because I can)
Might also be a good time to change the thermal paste.
Also, I will mount a bigger NVMe drive and give the little thing a good cleaning.
Mini form factors are for sure fun to work with 😎

Small rant:

I use three monitors at work and now use two at home... which in itself is great.
But there is something that nags me.
When dealing with a multi monitor setup I tend to switch my focus too often between monitors. I ask myself if that is the way to go.
Thinking about rather using one and handling all the windows in different #Xfce workspaces - since switching is easy via keyboard.
Maybe this is just me... but I kinda feel a little disorganized - if that makes sense.

A very nice launcher (and much more) is rofi.
I use it with to quickly run a application. It is easy to use and the defaults are sane.
Bin it to a keyboard shortcut of your liking and it will be your best buddy soon 😎

Rant:

I love retro games, especially SNES/NES/N64 and GB games.
Modern games, except for some titles, do not fascinate me at all anymore.
This lead to being able to run machines that are in the "older" realm. Not having a dedicated graphics card can be a blessing for sure. Energy costs drastically go down and one can run quiet systems.
Besides, playing retro games is not taxing at all to the system - any system will do fine.
I miss the great stories older games told... nostalgia hits again.

Weekend time... and that means:
More fun in the coming days 😎

Btw: Got a system for free from work.
A Ryzen system with 8 Cores and 8GB of RAM.... perfect to run some on it :freebsd:

Using packages now for some time... and I have to say that there have been no issues at all 🙂
Currently running Signal and Element without any problems - updating is smooth sailing as well.
I should expect that though in the end.
In general: If something is external and I need it, I will be going the and route.

If you are new to #Linux I suggest you try #Debian with #Xfce 😎 :debian:

Dependable, stable and easy to use 😉

The little runs really well. It sure packs a punch and is quiet at that.
for sure runs on everything.

fun :debian:

@jhx@fosstodon.org avatar

Made a decision.
For the longest time I've always had too many distros that I tried to run and support.
I need to fokus on something in the end... and not drift around all the time.
So, it is - only
I use all day / every day.
It does not make sense for me to run any other distro.

On the side I will focus on - that's it.

The many distros / derivatives have learned me a lot over the years... and I'm very thankful for that. But, less is more.

@jhx@fosstodon.org avatar

Daily driver is now a #OptiPlex 7060 Micro. 😉
In the end all I need is #Firefox and a good editor like #Vim - and of course my trusty #Debian :debian:
This system has also a NVMe inside which can be used for another OS of choice.. more on that later 😎

If I want to do some gaming I can fire up the #Ryzen system - but that is quite rare already.

So, saving energy and getting work done is a good deal 🙂

Specs:
i7-8700 (12)
32GB RAM
2TB SSD / 256GB NVMe

I always miss my / workflow when I boot into to do some work.
I have a couple of keyboard shortcuts on which makes working a lot easier. Also, rofi... enough said.
sometimes feels really clunky to handle.
Well, life I suppose 😂
