while i was cooking, i heard the rest of the house going OMG in the tv room and i came in to see what was happening

and what was happening was the tiniest wild bun

the tiniest of tiniest wild buns

hopping about back in forth in front of the glass doors outside

trying really hard to come in

including jumping up over the frame and trying to jump through the glass which it was too young to know about

and it is the most adorable thing i have seen in ... i don't even know. five years.

i'm still all just

Tazzy's gone and done something to her left hind leg/foot. She can't put any significant weight on it. She has been managing to do enough, but poor pupper isn't letting me know what hurts, and helping me figure out if something can be done.

    @RickiTarr OK, my thoughts are complicated, but I'll start with, "If it's what you want to do, go for it." "If it's something you want to do, but can't, then go fix that." But overall, I think it is sort of a terrible "institution". To much of the marriage stuff is not about wanting to do it. Or even if it is, it's too much "'till death do us part." in so many people's minds. And I would include collaring in that and other forms of "non-traditional marriage."

    Trying to get a Linux laptop to work with external monitors for the first time and oof. It is not the year of the Linux desktop. Monitors disappear and reappear randomly, with different names and orders, screwing up any scripting I have trying to configure them. That's when they bother to show up at all. I'm sure it all works great on desktop machines where monitors aren't being added and removed dynamically all the time, but external hardware with my Linux laptop has never been a pleasant experience. Using the laptop by itself, though, is always perfect.

    @gabek I'm not really that surprised. I'm on a desktop, and honestly not made changes to hardware, but every so often sound breaks. Not so often the video, at least not any more. As long as I don't do silly things like fail to update my NVIDIA drivers when I update my kernel.

    Nothing is wrong, and it's no emergency, but I'm curious if anybody in my Fediverse circle is in a place to offer Owncast some legal advice.

    Alternatively, can anybody recommend any online options that work on an open source budget that would be able to answer specific questions on an as-needed basis?

    I'm in the US (California) and Owncast is... on the internet? Nowhere? Everywhere? I don't know.

    Idea: A "Switch from Gmail day". An annual day that is dedicated to moving your email from being Google-owned to another, better, email provider.

    It could have branding, and documentation on how to switch, and during that day people would go out of their way to really be helpful in guiding people to switch.

    Switching away from Gmail seems like a tough thing for people, so I'd really love to normalize it. This is an important part of taking the internet back from big tech. Since moving email providers falls under "someday/maybe" list for many people, I think seeing other people might make the plunge would encourage others to do so, too.

    @gabek I'd approve. Though I see a lot of email that is not @gmail.com is going through gmail servers anyway. While there may be servers which have a worse legitimate mail to spam ratio... It's pretty darn hard...

    @gabek @Natanox I've noticed with some stuff "unsupported" is "we don't know anything, and aren't really to help you." Not so much that they clearly thinks it just doesn't work.

    Why do companies who make physical products often name their items unmemorable, and unparseable names like the "HU-2588B". Like sure maybe that means something internally at the company, but why would you sell it under that name?

    @gabek I think it sometimes is to easily distinguish different products... I know that KRK KNS-6400 is the "lower quality" of their studio headphones than the KRK KNS-8400 (the 6400 are sitting right beside me). But for me to be looking for the product, if I don't really know it's rather useless...

    I started on a new medication about a month ago and it's limited me to about 4-5hrs of sleep a night. While I'm willing to push through until this side effect subsides, it's getting old.

    @gabek I'd seriously talk with your healthcare provider about that at this point. Because that sounds dreadful, and to the point of considering what next move would be if it didn't resolve in the next few weeks (because it's not likely to unless it's some class that really takes a very long time to accommodate to).

    Nobody noticed, but I took about a month away from the Fediverse to clear my head and obviously I'm back now. But I'm trying to improve the balance between caring about the Fediverse and always being upset by all the potential evils that are around every corner because Mastodon is being shitty, or Facebook is showing up or whatever it is that day. I'm so tired of being angry about things. That's what Twitter was. I just want to enjoy this while still helping it move forward. I don't know where that balance is, though.

    @gabek Owncast does help in pretty major ways. While some people... May be able to setup what Owncast does, without something similar. It's really pretty simple to setup (I have done so locally, and I think that what I did would have been sufficient if it was on one of my servers).
