For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

@GossiTheDog they still say finding Recall data scrappers is unlikely... it might be right now, but as you say it won't be in the future if MS doesn't correct this App Data plain text SQLite database fiasco.

@Wileymiller (we) lawyers are some of the worst witnesses I've ever witnessed (pun intended) testifying. Because a lawyer knows the intent behind the question, and the consequence of some answer, "yes" or "no" are rarely the answer that comes out of their mouths. Sometimes we can hear "I know where you are going with that line of questioning, and no, it was not like that at all", other times we hear something histrionic like "yes, it was like that BUT X, Y AND Z, SO S, T, U" as if the lawyer never told their clients to stick to short, concise answers. Timed grenades, some call them where I practice.

@futurebird I think coop-hosted Fediverse and coop-cloud should be available to more people. In my country there's a coop ISP and it's a shame most people aren't able to opt for it.

Welp, I knew Microsoft's CoPilot+ Recall was going to be a privacy disaster but I didn't expect it to turn into an enterprise computing catastrophe for Microsoft quite this fast!

But this can't be a one-off. Any large enterprise that has to comply with a regulated privacy environment—HIPAA in the USA, GDPR in the EU, banking/insurance/finance globally—must be considering a ban on Microsoft installations on laptop/desktop computers right now or be breaking the law.

@WhyNotZoidberg my thoughts exactly, as a lawyer I'll be all over that in discovery, even if where I practice it is rare to ask for computer records in possession of the parties unless specifically identified. With Recall I can ask for the whole database to be entered into evidence.

Tive demasiado sono para conseguir ouvir o primeiro comunicado do MFA, mas fui acordado às 7h00 ao som do Hino Nacional cantado pelo Coro do Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, seguido do Editorial de Apoio da Emissora Nacional ao MFA, e, às 7h30, o segundo comunicado do MFA, precedido da agora famosa "A Life in the Ocean Wave" da Banda of Her Majesty's Royal Marines (o que muitos designam de Hino do MFA). Something I often see on YouTube: videos with an English title, but when you view it, it’s in a language other than English.

I don’t know who this helps. English speakers can’t understand it. And presumably, people who speak the YouTuber’s language won’t be finding it since they’re likely doing search queries in their own language.

It’s perplexing.

@atomicpoet happens in all languages. When I'm logged in and not using an alternative front end, Youtube usually recommends videos like those, with titles in my native language but that are in English or German. Matt is a great guy, but carwow UK isn't in Portuguese. Youtube got me to watch videos with uBlock origin, not logged in and on a special Youtube Firefox container because of it, losing direct access to my user ID and viewing habits. It's their choice.
[Edit: most of those videos that have titles localized have alternative soundtracks with other languages, like LinusTechTips in Spanish or Brazilian Portuguese sound for some videos, but not always on their localized titles' language].

@Ralhita , @portugalense e @catarinac (desculpam quebrar o vosso fio, mas é para não estar a responder separadamente a mesma coisa várias vezes): Gustavo Santos, na apresentação de um "livro" seu afirmou que tinha andado por aí com testes, resultados e declarações COVID falsos. E ainda se riu quando apontou alguém ali presente que tinha feito ainda "melhor" que ele, ao conseguir viajar com esses documentos falsos para outros países.
Tudo isto num evento num espaço cedido pela FNAC, numa loja FNAC, com publicidade da FNAC ao evento, quando o Gustavo já era bem conhecido pelas suas posições negacionistas, ou seja, quando a FNAC sabia que isto ia acontecer (se não sabia, como raio não sabia? Ninguém leu o livro dele antes de dar o ok ao evento e à venda dele nas prateleiras das lojas?!?).
A desculpa por dar palco a um negacionista criminoso confesso?

@hrbrmstr it is starting to look like to be safe from these attacks you can't use anything from these companies. It's starting to get hard to find something in that space that hasn't zero days or glaring security fails, and most of them companies are all under the same corporate umbrellas/silos.

    @caiocgo @kcarruthers worse, on Android (mobile) it is simply unwatchable since the app is unable to keep the screen refresh rate stable if the screen has anything different from 60Hz. Up and down all the time, on different devices.

    @ai6yr or "when in doubt, remain seated, and keep the belt buckled unless you really need to move". Flying over France from late Spring to lqte Summer is awful because of turbulence, one of the reasons (other than a serious lack of money/time) I haven't gone to the Le Mans 24h race.

    O estudo da Fundação Manuel dos Santos conclui que redução do IRC pode impulsionar economia, mas que pode também ser necessário aumentar outros impostos para contrabalançar a perda de receita.
    E que impostos serão esses se o Governo promete isenções de IMT e Imposto do Selo e de IRS? Os impostos que a todos afectam sem olhar ao rendimento, os impostos sobre o consumo. E o que acontece ao consumo e à economia quando aumentam os impostos sobre ele? Exacto... O estudo encomendado não consegue "chegar lá"...
