Did you know?

The kel audio charity remix project is an open call

This means it will never end!

Yup - you can do a remix at any time, let me know via DM and it will be added to the EP!

All proceeds on that release will be donated to the food hub - forever!

I know it's not easy. seaKels in particular is really challenging once you actually start listening 😉 not everyone has the chops, or even likes doing remixes, of course that's fair enough, but maybe you can do it???

The EP to be released will include both original tracks by me!

Two redux of keep one ear open by @Cognessence and myself!

Remixes of seaKels by @defaultmediatransmitter, @yonder and myself!

A total of 7 tracks and almost 1 hour of musical pleasure!

Honestly, I am blown away!

I love the original tracks by myself, naturally, but every remix/redux is just better - absolutely mind bogglingly good!

Completely free to anyone but all purchases will be donated to a food hub - 100%!

Anyone got any good ideas for things that are good to buy in bulk with long shelf lives?

My top two favourites are tinned tomatoes, I use at least 1 tin a week, and tinned oily fish, 2 tins a week - both reward bulk buying in savings and there is zero problem with shelf life.

Oh, I also buy soap and toothpaste in bulk too.

It takes effort to get there, but once you are ahead, the savings are significant!

"Make me a website!"

"I could do it myself in 5 minutes"

"What do you mean, we need to do testing?"

"Why is it taking so long, are you retyping the content out?"

"I thought changing the settings wouldn't matter because I couldn't see any difference."

"Why do you need product specifications, just make me an order form!"

"I don't care about good design principles, I like things this way."

Just some web dev gems from the recent project I just bailed on 😂

Honestly... I give up!

Let's push the Akai AX80 to its outer limits...

https://youtu.be/wvwmWdTh7B8?si=YYB5VcubsmEo5q_0

The AX80 is not an easy instrument to love, but has a STRONG personality. To find it, you'll have to push it to the outer limits of what the engine was built to do.

Cool 😎

I liked the little flute sound and the filter games 👍

Chord memory function really interesting too!

I don't care what colour your skin is, what your religion is, your ancestry, your hair colour, disability, gender, where you are from, where you live, how you live, what you eat, drink or otherwise imbibe, what music you like, etc. etc.

The only thing that matters is that you live your life without intentionally going out of your way to attack and hurt others.

If you really can't manage that, something is wrong.

"Gatekeepers are not human"

100% of truth!

kel,
@kel@mastodon.online avatar

@flockofnazguls

Yup!

Power, not matter how feeble and trivial, always corrupts!

I hear a lot of people talk about community, but unless there is true democracy, and decisions are made at a community level, the prick in control of the gate will sooner or later invariably put their personal shit ahead of the actual community, like they own it or something.

That power rush of being able to keep someone down 😂

The arrogance and ignorance is off the charts!

kel,
@kel@mastodon.online avatar

@flockofnazguls

For context the quote is from this video, he talks about how the gatekeepers on financial remuneration for creative endeavours used to be human (well, maybe!) but are now algorithmic!

All the above still stands though, someone, somwhere, wrote the algorithm.

Had a hunch that LTE reception would be better up the drive than where the antenna is currently, up on the chimney.

Our drive goes uphill, much higher than the house and, unlike the chimney, has no trees in the way, so is a bit of a no-brainer but somehow hadn't occurred to me.

So strung a bunch of extension cords together and took the router for a walk....

@johnl

Funny, did it work?

There are 86,400 seconds in a day that's a lot right?

but there are on average 120,000 new tracks uploaded to streaming sites - every day!

Tick, tick, tick

Imagine being at a market stall selling your wares, and every second that ticked by, another market stall opened next to you selling very similar wares.

Even if we just count the number of tracks in 2023 - that's 31,800,000 tracks!!!

😳

The only way to know how many times you are heard is with stats!

Check your stats!

    Two simple ways to spot a £$€ creep on ko-fi

    Non-specific goal - if there is a goal, why not put the amount there? Because it's easy to move the goal if no one knows what it is, if they get close to achieving the goal and still want to keep the money coming in, just secretly adjust it - sneaky!

    Going out of their way to hide the 'coffee counter' - this let's people see how much is raised. They can't scam folk if they let them know just how much they are raking in with their lies!

    Avoid!

    I slept poorly, the dog woke me up to go out at 3AM, again at ~6AM, and then decided he couldn't wait the 20 minutes until 7:20 to get out of the bed, not that i'd actually been able to get back to sleep after 6 anyway. Siri repeatedly thwarted me, and people are being stupid on the internet.

    1/2?

    Awww, I get these weird and bloody infuriating sensations too;

    it's shit, really shit!

    If you want to cry and fall asleep and tell the world to fuck off, I reckon that's 100% acceptable!

    I hope you feel better very very soon!!!

    The Double EP - seaKels and keep one ear open will be released on the next BandCamp Friday - 2nd February!

    This is to simultaneously reduce the amount of cash going to BandCamp and increase the amount of cash going to the food hub!

    I absolutely love all the tracks so far, there still may be one or two more, and it's not too late, if you get your audio skates on, to join in and do a track yourself 👍

    lots of remixes, fundraising to help feed hungry people...

    What's not to like? 🤷‍♂️

    A public service announcement for users on macOS: As was discovered today, faircamp installation via homebrew does currently not work [*].

    For the time being you can fall back to the more manual build procedure outlined in an older version of the docs: https://codeberg.org/simonrepp/faircamp/src/commit/6cf6efd935d096cf93939bd1b6f382edbf34c627/BUILD.md#macos

    I'll try to figure out a solution with our diligent brew packaging hero @themissingcow, but expect at least 2-3 days for this to succeed as whatever we come up with still needs to be manually reviewed and greenlit by the homebrew team.

    Special thanks to @lislegaard for reporting and digging into the issue and @kel for additional support in the process!

    [*] The issue seems to be caused by a software or system update in our code forge, which through an earlier git upstream change, interfered with the checksum stability of faircamp's release tarballs. Which is to say, tough luck, but no one's fault really, tech is just messy sometimes. :)

    kel,
    @kel@mastodon.online avatar

    @themissingcow @freebliss

    I know I said this already, but in case its been missed; the sha looks different on every request if you look at the screenshots above!

    Sorry if I've got this wrong, I’m not that with it today, but thought it worth mentioning again.

    Good luck 👍

    kel,
    @kel@mastodon.online avatar

    @themissingcow @freebliss

    Im not sure… its late here and I've been unwell all day, just wanted to say please check my observation for me 🙏 partly to make sure I am not imagining it and partly if I am right it could be a source of the issue!

    Please forgive me flakiness 😊

    Final call for this round of remixes!

    The two tracks are:

    keep one ear open and seaKels

    Are you up to the challenge? These are not easy, especially seaKels 😉

    There is no deadline, these can always be added to, but I will be releasing the remix eps soon and doing a short and sweet promotion to try and raise some cash for the food hub!

    DMs open!

    @freebliss

    I am having problem updating Faircamp from 0.10.1 to 0.11.0

    When I run brew upgrade faircamp I end up here.

    I tried removing the file, but still same.

    I am on a MacOS 11.4 system if that makes a difference.

    kel,
    @kel@mastodon.online avatar

    @lislegaard @freebliss @themissingcow

    You could also try to force the refetch

    -f, --force: Remove a previously cached version and re-fetch.

    so

    brew install faircamp -f

    kel,
    @kel@mastodon.online avatar

    @lislegaard @freebliss @themissingcow

    Hmm.. sounds like the formula may be broken?

    The brew formula must include the correct file name, if the name has changed and the formula hasn't been updated it will fail! in this way.

    Check:

    brew edit faircamp

    This will open the formula in a vi

    :q

    to quit!

    Note the brew dev mode change, switch back if not needed!

    kel,
    @kel@mastodon.online avatar

    @lislegaard @freebliss @themissingcow

    This is potentially a dangerous thing to do, if a hacker replaced the file and you circumvent the security check... well you know! Unlikely, but proceed at your own peril:

    Run brew install

    When the error comes up, check the expected and actual values.

    Then edit the brew formula to match the actual sha256.

    Run brew install again.

    If it doesn't run then, goodness knows 🤷‍♂️

    kel,
    @kel@mastodon.online avatar

    @lislegaard @freebliss @themissingcow

    Sorry, this doesn't make any sense to me.

    You ran:

    brew install faircamp

    got the error, then

    brew edit faircamp

    and got nothing?

    kel,
    @kel@mastodon.online avatar

    @lislegaard @freebliss @themissingcow

    The only thing I can think of is

    brew tap

    see:

    https://docs.brew.sh/Taps

    but this hasn't been neccesary for some time to my knowledge.

    After that, I don't know.

    Maybe it's a Mac OS incompatibility.

    kel,
    @kel@mastodon.online avatar

    @lislegaard @freebliss @themissingcow

    So tap didn't work either, very odd!
