Die aktuelle Situation in den USA mit den Infektionen bei Milchkühen sieht ziemlich bedrohlich aus. Zumal aktuelle Daten aus Milch in Supermärkten auf sogar noch stärkere Verbreitung hindeuten als bisher bekannt.

Joe Biden has deported more people than Donald Trump [1], funded the police more than Trump [2], and has now helped to kill more Palestinians than Trump [3].

If you cannot allow criticism towards this person because you believe critiquing them is the same as endorsing the opponent, then you are participating in the very cult behavior you should be criticizing.

Yes, Trump would be worse, way worse...

...but it's horrible to compare Trump's potential genocide to Biden's currently real and ongoing genocide. Voting Democrat is harm reduction, portraying it overall as anything else is, in my privileged opinion, incorrect. In many individual examples I can, however, see how you come to view the Democrats not just as the lesser evil, but even positively.

Many vulnerable groups such as queer (especially trans) people are helped by a Democratic government, even maintaining the right to abortion is, visibly, helped by Democrats. There are examples in which voting the Democratic Party betters the lives of certain groups. Yet that change doesn't come sustainably and the tides may as well turn. If the Democratic Party is willing to throw one group of people under the bus for winning Republican voters, who is to say they won't do the same with your group?

If you don't give human rights to everyone, it's not a right anymore, it's being treated human as a privilege.

When it comes to foreign policy, unions, most social services, the treatment of the poor, healthcare, border policy, it's mostly the same between the two parties. Trump is merely the death of the euphemism.

A queer person won't vote for a party that doesn't support queer rights, so what should someone of another marginalized group not supported by the Democrats do?

Additionally, don't forget that it was the Democratic party that supported and funded Donald Trump's primary election in 2015 [4] as they always back the most far right candidate [5] in order to even make a distinction between the two parties visible.

What I'm trying to say is that you, as a democratic voter, cannot blame someone for supporting an alternative party, nor claim that supporting that third party is horrible merely because it may “allow for a Republican victory.” If it was in the Democrat's interest to change the election system or electoral college to allow for something other than effectively a two party system, then they would've done so.

I won't ride a high horse and claim it's morally wrong to support the Democrats, I don't think that. I do believe, however, that many people are disillusioned in voting for Democrats but know voting for Republicans only makes things worse. If not allowing a Republican victory was in the Democrat's interest, then they would adapt the party's stance to social, non-war/non-genocide, non-deportation, anticapitalist, pro-Housing, and pro-Healthcare for all positions. They don't, so what choice is there for people from marginalized groups other than voting for a third party? Can you tell them it's only morally right to vote for a party that worsens their living conditions or wishes to have them erased?

A representative democracy exists so people can voice their opinions through voting in the representation they favor — if you critique them because the USA's democratic system fails to represent them, hence they should vote for one of the two representations that are possible, but aim to kill them or worsen their lives, then you are critiquing an individual for the faultiness of the system.

And last but not least, any person should still be called out for “boycotting the election”, not voting is ridiculous which is perfectly explained by Jay Foreman here.

@ErikUden The suffering in Gaza, lies primarily in the responsibility of Hamas and Netanyahu! You admit it’s better (even important) to support Democrats rather than Republicans, because they’d be way worse. Biden is facing the dilemma that not supporting Israel would favour Hamas/Hezbollah/Iran…
Criticism may be justified, but talking about „Biden‘s genocide“ is taking it WAY too far IMHO. Putting the blame on Biden denies Israel’s agency & relativises Netanyahu’s responsibility.

Ich habe zumindest große Zweifel daran, dass die Pressefreiheit irgendjemandem dazu verpflichtet jedes beliebige sogenannte „Presseerzeugnis“ im Sortiment zu haben!

Die Deutsche Bahn überrascht mich doch immer wieder: Sitze im „Sprinter“ von Berlin nach , der wegen „verspäteter Bereitstellung“ und „defekter Weiche“ mindestens 30 min Verspätung in Köln haben wird. Außerplanmäßiger Halt in Wolfsburg, wo Gastro-Team aussteigt, „weil es in einem anderen Zug gebraucht wird“. Bistro ist dann jetzt halt zu, zu Trinken gibt bis Köln (noch mindestens drei Stunden) halt nix …

@mwfc @ulrichkelber Wenn man privat oder Kurzstrecken fährt, mag das Luxus sein. Wer beruflich häufig längere Strecken zurücklegt, für den macht es schon sehr viel Sinn die Fahrzeit gleichzeitig für Mittagessen und Arbeit zu nutzen, dann wären brauchbare Gastro und brauchbares WLAN aus ganz pragmatischen Erwägungen sinnvoll.

@mwfc Klar. Die Bahn hat noch eine Menge anderer Probleme, die MINDESTENS so wichtig sind, wie Gastro/WLAN. „Luxusproblem“ klingt für mich nur abwertend, so als wär’s eigentlich kein Problem. Wenn Geschäftsreisende auf die Schiene wechseln sollen, muss die Bahn aber deren Anforderungen bedienen. Spärliche Angebote weiter zu reduzieren ist da nicht zielführend & daher kritikwürdig.
Aber Gastro ist sicher nicht das allerdringlichste Problem der Bahn, das war ja auch nicht der Punkt.

There's no “content” on the Fediverse. There's stories, articles, greetings, friends, and humans. Contentification of human creativity is what algorithm-based platforms drove us to do. Content to distract, void of meaning or a soul, but filled with sponsorships and monetary incentive.

The Fediverse is unique as it has meaning first, medium second. We say things not for the sake of saying something to please some algorithm or audience, but because we think it's something someone needs to hear, or we simply wish to say. Once you've become accustomed to this way of digital interaction, liberalize your creativity from the shackles of corporate interests and marketability, there's no way back. The only thing I wish is to give people, our generation that knows no alternative, that same feeling.

@anderspuck @EvilCartyen Why not have hundreds of millions of users on many decentralized, open and non-commercial or low profit instances? I don’t see why the fediverse would need big corporations for that.
How is Meta supposed to make profit from Threads, without working against the objectives of an open fediverse? If there is a way, what would stop them from doing so to make even more profit?

As soon as Threads has a sufficient userbase to be self sufficient they will start to „improve“ over the open standards with proprietary tech, making federation increasingly unfeasible, luring more people over until they ARE what the fediverse could have been. https://ploum.net/2023-06-23-how-to-kill-decentralised-networks.html

@anderspuck @EvilCartyen I don’t need to be „convinced“. The fact that we did see similar developments before, is enough for me to realise there‘s a considerable risk. That risk has to be handled & I don’t think embracing an enemy I don’t trust & who would be capable to win a fight, is a safe way to deal with such risks…
(I don’t want to force any parallels here, but maybe some come to mind.)

@fzer0 @threecoloured Es gibt in vielen Haushalten auch eine große Sammlung von alten Plastik-Einkaufstüten. Also zumindest in diesem Haushalt hier. Vielleicht sollte ich die im Netz als „nachhaltige Fahrradsattelschutzbezüge aus 💯% Recyclingmaterial“ verscherbeln. 🤔

@feditips Is there a way to do the opposite: subscribe to an interesting thread, independently of me being mentioned? E.g. if someone asks a question I‘d like to know the answer to as well. Even if I chime in with a „would like to know as well“, I won’t be notified of any answer directly to the original author.

    @mwfc @c0r3nn @rhold @SheDrivesMobility Ich wohne auf dem Land: Hausarzt/Gemeindeverwaltung 4 km, Einkaufsmöglichkeiten 3..6 km, Pendelstrecke 42 km (zum Glück hauptsächlich HomeOffice), nächste Bahnanbindungen 9,8 bzw. 11 km, eine Buslinie, die nur bis in die beiden nächsten größeren Orte (ohne Bahnanbindung!) fährt, wo man dann umsteigen müsste… Die aktuelle Lösung heißt MIV.
