This inverted image of Ballaine Lake shows a vivid reflection of dark clouds and a forest. The sky, filled with towering clouds, reflects into the water, creating a dramatic and distorted view. The top part of the image is the reflection, and the bottom part shows the trees along the lake's edge. The photo was taken in late summer at Ballaine Lake in Fairbanks, Alaska.

A Balancing Act: Boulders perch precariously on thin columns of ice, formed as surrounding snow and ice melt more rapidly than the areas insulated by the rocks. This photo was taken in the summer on the Black Rapids Glacier in the Alaska Range.

A few photos from Mt. Thoro and the Torofare Ridge in Denali National Park. Currently, this area would be very difficult to access since the Pretty Rocks Landslide has closed the road beyond the East Fork, requiring a long foot approach. However, a plan is in place to reopen the road in 2027 by building a bridge that will span the rockslide area.

This wasn't the brightest aurora I've seen, but this is from what remains one of my favorite aurora photo sets of all time. I love the candle-flame-like nature of the northern lights over the snow-covered trees! Taken in mid-December in Fairbanks, Alaska.

A partially snow-covered moulin and crevasse on the Worthington Glacier in the Chugach Mountains, Alaska, taken in July. It's a good reminder to never walk on isolated, persisting snowpack on glacier surfaces in the summer!

The sky is awash with green and red green from the Granite Tors Trail near Fairbanks, Alaska. Both colors are emissions from atomic oxygen, but the red was very faint to the eye and barely visible due to the lower density of oxygen at higher altitudes. The green, on the other hand, was spectacularly bright and dancing across the sky in bands and curtains.
