It's passport photos day, so I did the makeup thing, and put on a bra with an underwire‡, and everything.

My hair was still a bit damp as we were about to leave so wifey suggested blow-drying. The right side of my head now has the volume of a '90s teen girl left unsupervised with a can of hairspray.

I went in looking like this (blurred for eye contact).

The passport photo is god-awful. I didn't know it was possible to make my jaw look that big.

I know people with estrogen have said their ADHD gets worse during perimenopause/menopause, but I'm wondering if people with testosterone 50+ also notice their Autism/ADHD symptoms getting worse. Especially more "inattentive"/stuck in their thoughts.

I feel like we really need more research on all of this.

@KitMuse @actuallyautistic @neurodiversity I'm 50, trans-femme recently restarting hormones, ADHD, & Autistic so I think i can speak to a lot of these.

estrogen drops during perimenopause & i've gone from basically none to too much recently. I don't think i'm any more or less stuck in my thoughts than before hormones.

My autism symptoms do feel worse BUT I've also been doing a lot of work unmasking work, & listening to 🧠's needs, & feeling / being percieved as "more autistic" is normal then.

The young dog still does not have a concept of “sleeping in” so sometimes after I walk them, I will flop on the couch and go back to sleep. This happened when I tried this morning. It felt too cute not to photograph.

@misc I am an experienced programmer. I watched my wife learn to program and answered her occasional questions. Time And again, I would hear her suddenly say “that’s it!?”

I have been doing this for nearly 30 years and mentored many people. I swear to you there is no magic. It is a collection of simple patterns combined an interesting ways.

I would say that there is a degree of specialization in “genre” of coding: web development, mobile development, embedded device dev, etc.

@misc all of that is to say that it will take far less time than you think.

If, for example, you are thinking about mobile development, you should easily be able to make “functional” apps in less than new year. How much less depends on how much time you have to devote to practice.

There is a bit of a gap between it technically does what I want, and it looks, feels, and behaves the way I want while doing that.

@misc admittedly, that last bit involves a lot of yelling at your computer. THings like "what the !#$&*| Do you want from me?!" as a result of framework features that were released half-baked, or with crap / no documentation, or seem to have a glaringly obvious missing feature that really, really should have been included.

TIL that (on mastodon) if you make a post "Followers only" it ALSO means your followers can't boost it.

This is awesome,

BUT there's more. IF You reply to someone who DOES NOT follow you AND you set the reply to "Followers only" THEY can't boost it either.

Of course, there's no getting around malicious screenshotting, but EVERY bit of control we give users over the way their content is shared is good.

@tillybridges I love Solo Role Playing‡ for the same reason. It can get SO emotional.

Some groups at a table can do that, but very few have both the trust, and skill to let that flow.

‡ D&D(ish) things, but where you're the only player discovering the story & characters as you go.

@tillybridges 100% i think that even if you have a great GM there's still the hurdle of having players who can trust each other enough to be vulnerable & have safety tools in place that they actually trust and believe are a real option for them.

society makes this so hard. toxic masculinity makes this... ugh. poor men. SO much to unlearn.

@anubis2814 i feel like this analogy is misleading in that it ignores the fact that the free education was bad when GW Bush took office, and his stupid bullshit plus decades of defunding have made it absolute 💩

The voucher system is arguably stupid but it at least gives some kids a chance at a halfway decent education.

I find it hard to believe that the public schools keeping the money would make a difference in the face of how absolutely fucked they are financially

New milestone reached:
Our tractor's fuel hole is nearly chest high on @dachary so I - being taller - became the one who refills it.

1st I go to grab a 5 gallon can of fuel (~35lbs or ~16kg) and am like "oof!" being caught off guard by the weight. Then, I go to lift it to my chest height to hold it over the tank & I am struggling. I need to get a stool to Captain Morgan my leg on, so that I can rest the can on my raised thigh / knee and tip it in.

I miss-aim, pour some down the tractor's rear & onto the floor. 🤦‍♀️ Then I get the nozzle in, continue to struggle, and 2 more times end up getting some past the hole.

D's getting frustrated, but can't lift it because of her back.

Eventually she looks at me and says "I wonder if this is one of those hormone things."

I'm like "muscle loss? heh. yeah" At that point it was a pretty big understatement. ;)

So um. Yeah. milestone reached. 🎉 🤷‍♀️

I need to exercise more (or you know, ever).

Well, I can populate timelines now. There's a lot of plumbing work left, of course. But I've been wanting to get this done for months. Feels good

Also a lot of perf focus, given how critical this functionality is to the user experience. I only have fake test data atm, but it feels pretty snappy with the few thousand rows I'm generating for tests.

NOT excited about putting together a real perf testing solution.
