This is a frankly dangerous and historically flat understanding of #genocide. Joe only permits judgments of genocide in hindsight. Yet, we know that 35,000 dead in Palestine is a conservative estimate. We haven’t accounted for the missing and disappeared. We know of badges of genocide: destruction of hospitals, libraries, mosques, and schools. Raphael Lemkin coined “genocide” thinking of 800,000 displaced Armenians in 1916; the 1948 Nakba displaced 750,000 Palestinians. https://mstdn.social/@joeinwynnewood/112437683757450340
You know what’s even shittier than lapses in Masto etiquette? The indecency of genocide denial, especially in the arsenal of Zionism: the bipartisan United States.
"There was no way I could support the Democratic presidential nominee, Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey. Only years later did I realize that I was mistaken, and we missed an opportunity to have a president who might actually have made America great by championing racial justice, labor rights, and the war against poverty."
If only you’d applied the same parsing logic you employ on #genocide to the article’s comparison of 2024 to 1968. Unlike LBJ, #Biden has not dropped out of the race. LBJ’s high disapprovals were due to Vietnam; Biden’s disapprovals were high well before Oct7. Biden has no historic civil rights and voting rights legislation victories to shore up his progressive wing (in fact he fumbled his promise to codify Roe). Harris is not Humphrey. Nixon created the EPA, etc, etc
Nonsense to those who refuse to concede that the ruling class — through corporate campaign donations and Beltway-insider lobbying firms — has determined our choices that benefit them either way.
Trump moved the embassy to Jerusalem, Biden kept it there and funded the genocide of the Palestinians. Trump built a border wall, Biden extended it. Trump called Haiti a shithole country, Biden deported more Haitians than any other POTUS in history.
“About 100 pro-#Palestine#students at the University of #Texas at #Dallas held a sit-in along the hallway that leads to the school president’s office …
The students’ main demand is for the university to pull investments from companies that ‘are producing the jets, the missiles and the bombs that are being used in #Gaza right now’”
“BROWN STUDENTS HAVE BEGUN A #GAZA SOLIDARITY ENCAMPMENT. Join the movement spreading across college campuses calling for university divestment from the #genocide in Gaza. All eyes on #Palestine. 🇵🇸
Ever consider giving up your dabbling in supremacist colonialism/supporting the genocide of brown people or has Eurocentrism rotted your brain #BlueMAGA? I understand that critical thinking can seem like propaganda in a mind shrunk to the reactionary banality, “We good. They bad.”
