What is your dream road trip? Where would you start? Where would you end up? What stops would you make along the way? It can be short or long, whatever interests you!

mycrowgirl,
@mycrowgirl@mastodon.social avatar

@RickiTarr
Short term - I had plans to do a recreation of the old US1 /A1A up the US East coast from Key West, FL to Fort Kent, Maine… but then the pandemic happened and timing hasn’t worked out since. I’ve done segments here and there but would like to do it as a single camping road trip.

Always wanted to experience the Basque coastline from Bilbao to Biarritz, but epic goal would be a multi-year road trip around the entire western european coastline from the Mediterranean to the North Sea.

I am talking o a reporter about this in a couple hours: https://regina.ctvnews.ca/from-outer-space-sask-farmers-baffled-after-discovering-strange-wreckage-in-field-1.6880353

This is about an hour away from my farm, so this'll be a fun conversation, and yet another great opportunity to tell a lot of people about what a huge problem we have with unregulated commercialization of orbit. (Also I just redid my slides for my public talk next week, this is going in!)

@sundogplanets I’m reminded of the $400 fine for littering that a community in Australia sent to NASA when Skylab reentered in the late 70’s 😁

@masukomi just dropping in to say that I think these are hella clever and I could see them being useful in a library makerspace setting!

When they interlock with each other, do you think it would be rigid enough to work with a wheeled base plate option?
(That would make it easy to bring the supplies between workstations/room)

@masukomi thanks, that definitely makes sense! (more curious musing than active need on my end)

I need shorts. Target suggested these as an option.

Just... no for SO many reasons.

I have avoided shorts for years, but if I'm going to keep overheating like this (evidence suggests yes) I'm going to need some.

Looking through the options I realize i have NO clue what would look good on me, but I'm pretty sure it's "not these" ;)

mycrowgirl,

@masukomi LOL, there is also zero meaningful consensus on where or what the “waist” is.

I could have three people measure me today and give you an entirely different answer. Some will measure about an inch below the navel regardless of where/if your body tapers in above the hip bone, some will measure at the narrowest point between your hip bone and chest, and some would measure it at where-ever current fashion says a trouser should sit.

@masukomi fair warning, the weight and quality of denim in Levis women’s jeans (especially trendy/fashion cuts) is not the same as classic 501s.

People always play the “fuck around” part of Toccata and Fugue in D minor, but I’ve always loved the “find out” part more.

Tangentially related: Fantasy and Fugue in A minor has big 8-bit game energy.

@superball yeah, it’s something I’ve never been able to really resolve beyond “living in the moment mindfulness” which has always been something of a salve for that moment but never really takes root. And I feel doubly (quadruply?) displaced since the West Germany of my childhood (pre-reunification) and the Rustbelt/Appalachia of my adolescence… also don’t exist anymore in so many meaningful ways. I’ve accepted (more or less) that I’ll be perpetually unmoored. 😌

As a caregiver of two adults with mobility devices, one of the things I love about the county where I live is the abundance of conservation parks with accessibility features.
On the downside, they’re not fully accessible. 😕 1/2

Many of the paved paths and boardwalks are not wide enough for two wheelchairs (or a wheelchair and a stroller) to comfortably pass each other. Which means that sometimes I have to disengage one electric wheelchair and manually backup or manoeuvre to the nearest passing area, without losing track of the person with the walker. 🙃 2/2

I suspect the beaver 🦫 is finally feeling good about the work they’ve been doing upstream.

The water no longer flows over the stick. A small trickle slips underneath.

The pond is down, & looking dry, but it’s secretly a trap.

For all those people out there who still claim that we are getting our kids high by giving them Adderall:

I took my dose at 6:30 AM , went back to sleep, just getting up now 10 minutes before nine.

#ADHD brains are chemically different. Normal brains, get high or focused or whatever. I become slightly more able to find the thing I set down three seconds ago.

@masukomi SAME. It doesn’t wake me up, it means I don’t have to go back to the kitchen five times before I actually bring my coffee to the living room like I wanted to instead of the five other things I did instead.

@RiversideBryan they grow easily and are considered invasive, but hummingbirds and other pollinators LOVE them. Our house came with a few of them established in the garden, they have shallow roots so have been easy enough to keep under control.

Where you live/grew up, what is the word for the natural path between two points that often goes near a more formal walkway/sidewalk?
The formal English word is “desire path” which always gave me the ick. In german it was technically “Trampelpfad” (trampel path) but colloquially in the areas I grew up it was usually Gänsenpfad (goose path) or “Ziegenpfad” (goat path), usually dependent on which small livestock was more common to the region.
