Does Mitch McConnell have a family? Does anyone love him enough to talk with him about... the finite nature of life. The preciousness of hours, minutes seconds?

How from dust we all have come and to dust we shall all return?

He could be petting some kittens. Listening to the sound of a child's laugh-- Dude really wants to die in front of us holding a pen mid-way through signing a bill that forces orphans to work in coal mines or something.

Dear Mitch McConnell,
Sorry I was not your mother...

I don’t get the variation allowed in the infamous arrest mugshots doing the rounds. Surely this type of documentation demands strict standardisation and aims to disempower the subject through being “standardised.” I would’ve expected at least the level of regulation demanded by a passport pic: flat lighting, face with chin-up, straight-on and expressionless (no scowling, smiling etc.). Maybe even numbered lines behind the subject (to stop certain people lying about their height?).

nichorra,

@MarkMaguire even little Bieber had his moment.

Discussion elsewhere about authors buying other authors' books prompts me to observe that we cannot expect to make a living by taking in each other's washing.

I wonder who understands that expression now? And what once common idioms get a blank stare today - and from what age groups?

For example, a check with family and friends' kids a few years ago found none of them had ever heard of the Marie Celeste.

Your kernel of truth point made me think of Aberation In the Heartland of the Real.
It's about Timothy McVeigh, but explores all of the beliefs and theories of the culture McVeigh had steeped himself in, as well what happened. MkUltra, alien-human hybrids, FBI involvement etc.

Wendy S. Painting is super interesting. Unfortunately only seems to be active on the birdsite and not here.

I’m at that stage now of befuddlement where I’m rattling around my quarantine zone with a hot cup of tea in my hand and finding a now cold and completely untouched cup of tea which I put down 15 minutes beforehand and forgot about. 😵‍💫 #Tea #InThePlagueHouse

nichorra,

@MarkMaguire it's all just kicked off in our house too. Very inconvenient timing 😩

👏Betis defender Hector Bellerin: "What is happening is truly shameful . From representing our country with that level of vulgarity, misrepresenting the victim's statements and, on top of that, having the audacity to blame her, going on to victimise her for having committed an abuse, are facts that no one would do. How can this go unpunished? Football is a social tool to make advancements and progress, machismo should have no place within this system."

I'm happy to report that the Cork pride parade wasn't a fraction as corporate as previous years, with community groups dominating the majority of the parade.

I absolutely loved this banner.

The Phoenix's repeated coverage of Ireland's fledgling short-story writer has me in stitches every time. Think this is the third time he features.

nichorra,

If you're looking for emerging Irish writing from someone who hasn't managed to marry the head of the Irish Arts Council, my novel Elysian could be your next great read:
