Although #mastodon is the elephant in the room (see what I did there), the #fediverse is way more than just that. I want to look at other ways to engage with the wider Fediverse, just for fun and my own education. I have a #pixelfed account that I never use but maybe I'll move all my image posting to it and just repost it here, etc. Still mulling.

@nosaj Oh absolutely, but everyone who follows my Mastodon may not also follow my Pixelfed since they’re different servers etc. The Achilles Heel of the Fediverse has always been no single portable identity. Glad to see folks smarter than me now talking about that 😂

I will likely do another -exclusive Frankie Play live stream this weekend so be sure to follow either at https://operationpuppet.live or at https://puppet.zone. Or both if you’re extra cool.

The secret project revealed! I was contacted by the wonderful folks at SciShow Kids to make new versions of Bill, Webb and Juniper! Look for them on their YouTube channel soon! #puppets #puppetbuilding

peeps! Did my first test of live streaming to my server today. All went well but the VoD was split into several uneven videos instead of published as a single video. Any clue where I'd start looking to determine why?

Cheers!

As some of you may have (prematurely) seen, I'm looking at live streaming to soon. Likely some Frankie Play this afternoon, both on https://puppet.zone and our server at https://www.operationpuppet.live.

exclusives!

Echoing a sentiment I’ve seen elsewhere, please bear in mind that this time of year is particularly tough for the self employed, gig workers and who are all reeling from paying taxes.

Every artist has some form of Patreon/Ko-Fi/tip jar. If you’re ever inclined, this is the time.

I noticed the company who wanted to add their service directly into Owncast, and I said no, started releasing their own version of Owncast with their own changes in it to support this use case.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. It's kind of a fork, but it's really just another release of Owncast by somebody else. They're releasing something called Owncast with functionality and decisions that have nothing to do with the real Owncast. It specifically says stuff like "Owncast does X", and Owncast does not do X, and will never do X. Only their changes do X.

I fear this may confuse people. If something goes wrong with their version of the software, people are going to ask me for support, and might make the real Owncast look bad. But I don't know if this is wrong, or if this is completely acceptable. It's open source, and the name "Owncast" isn't owned by anybody, as Owncast is an open source project, not a company. So I guess they have the right to do whatever they want and call it Owncast.

But it feels wrong, and it seems like really bad things could come of this.

operationpuppet,
@operationpuppet@mastodon.content.town avatar

@gabek Huh. As it’s open source they absolutely can fork it and do whatever they feel but specifically calling it Owncast or calling out what they feel is Owncast’s shortcomings is shitty behaviour, even if not “legally” wrong. That in itself is enough reason to avoid them. Feels like bad faith.

operationpuppet,
@operationpuppet@mastodon.content.town avatar

@gabek Yeah that’s even shittier. You’re right to feel cheated. It’s a scumbag thing for them to do.

Realized the logo on the server being the same as the O:P logo everywhere else probably wasn't helpful cuz at a glance folks assume it's all coming form this account. So I gave the https://www.operationpuppet.live logo a bit of a tweak.

Probably going to do a special video just about the Owncast server soon. Really want to build on it, I like it a lot.

Lord. I know garbage has poisoned the web but I hadnt fully appreciated the scale until I, a newbie, tried to find a simple beginner tutorial for writing a chat bot for some things I’d like to do with the server.

Nothing but ChatGPT gibberish. Eventually gave up.

Lawl, the Sad Boys are apparently review bombing cuz it’s got Woke in it or something.

Anyway, my character and main pawn. Dear every other game dev: THIS is how you do people of colour in your character creator.

Still mulling over my approach to live video here on the while the build streams are on hold for a few weeks.

Put the server on pause for a bit to give them time to get a couple more milestones under their belt, and haven’t yet activated live streaming on our .

I want to get the Frankie Play stuff going again but not sure there’s any audience for it here. Here’s a recent Twitch VoD.

95% of my time on is muting either super horny art (no shade, just not my thing) or minor celebrities/wannabes who are utterly convinced everyone will love their edgelordy Hot Take.

I know it’s working for some people but I’m just not a target for either thing they’re trafficking.

Related: one of the more strangely difficult things I’ve had to do as a small business owner is recognize when a social media platform was doing me more mental/emotional harm than it was benefitting the business and drop it.

, for example.

Another ! The first type of puppet I sold was my tribute to Fraggles, which I call Greeblees. In 2020 I did a new “deluxe” version of them, and this was the first. Today’s Greeblees are still based on this first build!
