Been a bit quieter here on than other places lately but the new surge is nice. Taking a light touch cuz this is one of the few truly “nice” places online I feel like I can chill.

As I think about using integration more, I reflect that I used to be discouraged there aren't a lot of people here.

But then I realized: that's not a bad thing. I can be among the first. This is actually a perfect place to be. Imagine being the among the first of any genre on any platform.

I may not have a big audience here but each one of them will be an actual human person. That's valuable.

I cannot overstate how crappy is. It’s like someone packed rancid meat into a circus canon and fired it at a cheese grater.

Here there is no algorithm. There it’s only algorithm. It’s literally the worst social media platform I’ve ever seen. And I started on BBSes.

Another ! The first type of puppet I sold was my tribute to Fraggles, which I call Greeblees. In 2020 I did a new “deluxe” version of them, and this was the first. Today’s Greeblees are still based on this first build!

Every builder will tell you making hands is the worst part of it. This was basically a form of puppet builder’s torture and took nearly 2 hours for one but you can’t argue with results.

Pulling out all the stops for this Nosferatu.

As the corporate push to cram “AI” into every nook and cranny won’t stop, we’re about to be awash in increasingly dull and banal “content”.

Now is the time for humans to lean into what AI can’t. Creativity. Innovation. We’re good at being weird. Not just disjointed word and image salads, but truly weird.

Stay weird. It’s all we have left.

Capitalism is all hot for AI cuz they think they can eliminate their one remaining “drain”: employees. Without them there’s only “the market” to give them money.

With the usual foresight they never think that once everyone is unemployed, no one will be able to afford the AI crap they churn out.

The “free but has ads” fallacy: if I can’t afford your paid tier I certainly can’t afford to buy anything from the ads you’re blasting at me. The only ones who actually benefit from this model are ad companies themselves, not the advertisers and certainly not the end user.

Echoing a sentiment I’ve seen elsewhere, please bear in mind that this time of year is particularly tough for the self employed, gig workers and who are all reeling from paying taxes.
