Related to my latest video: people pointed out that Visual Studio is a major IDE missing from Linux, but available on Windows and macOS. Well, macOS is losing it as well, Microsoft just announced they would discontinue it for Apple’s OS.

I guess they won’t bring it to Linux any time soon, then (especially since they would argue that you can use Linux using WSL, and run Visual Studio on Windows at the same time)…

So I have a programming question for people. Except it's not really a programming question, except it kinda is.
I can translate it fairly well into a civics problem:

When creating public works, is it more beneficial to society as a whole to create something which:

  1. Takes low-skill but moderately-laborious effort from anyone to repair/maintain
  2. Takes high-skill/nontrivial understanding, but very low effort to repair/maintain

I know the real answer is "it depends", but... 🤔

i learned yesterday something about me:

  1. when I'm exceptionally nervous in social situations, I default to scripted answers (this was known)
  2. those scripts do not automatically update in my brain given new information (haha oh no)

oh my god, the reason I never see eye to eye with SAP folks in relation to ITIL and is that they have their own definition and application for "request for change" which comes into conflict with ServiceNow's "change request". 👀 An SAP RfC is more like a Demand in that it must be assessed and prioritized for execution.

@ryan I need to pour over the doc myself, but I'm willing to bet the short answer is yes as long as it fulfills a sincerely-held religious belief.

And probably only as long as you don't live in a state like where such discrimination is illegal already.

This only applies at the federal level as a general case I think.

I'd love for this to make a difference, but I'm expecting that once again, the likes of xfinity, at&t, et al end up raking in cash while we're left with even more dark fiber and no last-mile connections... And of course, more expensive internet with stricter caps, just as a "screw you".
