Don't dress slutty, but please try to be sexy.

Be on the alert for predators at all times, this is your job, because they can't just be expected control themselves, but don't be afraid of all men...somehow.

You need to be strong, but not too strong, you don't want anyone to feel emasculated.

You need to want to have children, you have a womb, you just have to use it, but please don't let the children interfere with anything else you need to do. We are already doing you a favor giving you eight weeks of unpaid leave!

Be very thin, but also eat cheeseburgers and drink beer, because we don't want to acknowledge that for most people, being very thin involves not eating enough.

Be vulnerable and emotionally available, but I swear to God, if you cry at work, or express anger about anything, you're going to make everyone uncomfortable, HR needs to talk with you.

I get that you're working full time and 3 other people live in your house, but it's you're fault it's not clean enough, and did you really get take out again?

You need to have it all, but don't expect any hand outs.

Be smart, but don't show off, EVER, be demure, let them think it was their idea.

You need to be funny, but don't try to get attention, and don't snort laugh, and not too dirty, please don't mention your period!

And ffs, would it hurt you to smile?!

Share your thoughts but be more quiet in meetings.

The way you express empathy is wrong, no matter what.

Be more of a team player, don't complain when all your ideas are dismissed.

You're a natural leader, so you need to be more submissive.

And don't make faces, we can see what you are thinking.

And smile more...

(All of these were told to me by a previous manager, at a company where bullying was actually a 'test').

If there was a name for a Frontend Developer who sits ideally in front-of-the-front-end while also advising Design with regards Accessibility concerns, maybe UX here and there, and the feasibility of actually implementing the design ideas in code...

What would that role be called?

I get that Design Systems and the people who build them sit in this space. But still, what is that role called? And what if I'm not actively the one in charge of the design system?

Oh good. His Majesty's Passport Office now won't let me have a renewed passport in the name I have been using since I was 7 or 8, because it has one letter difference with the name I still have on the system in my birth country.

@sarajw a country holds all my documentation updates (related to being trans) hostage until I get my birth certificate from another country (which will never recognize my identity), and since 'tis the season, it's taking its sweet merry time to come and I most likely won't be able to do it all this year... Ugh!

There is an alarming number of people who think "cryptography" == "crypto" (as in the currencies and scams).

Am I the only one who can never remember whether the Max or the Ultra is supposedly the more high-end Apple chip? Max sounds like it should be the maximum, but ultra sounds like a bigger claim than max. So confusing.

(if you can't remember either, it's Ultra > Max)

How to Leave X

Some of the best tips I've seen for transitioning to Mastodon.

Don't delete your X account; instead go Mastodon-first, meaning:

  1. Open Mastodon before X
  2. Post new content to Mastodon before X
  3. Engage replies on Mastodon before X
  4. Keep using X but as a lurker; reply less, follow less.
  5. Post teasers on X ("My thoughts on ABC are posted on Mastodon. Username in bio.")
  6. Occasionally post on X that you're now on Mastodon, otherwise your absence is less noticed.
