Who has to recognize Palestine as a state for you personally to recognize Palestine as a state?

@evan I find the question quite weird because we're all just citizens, and as such we can't “recognise” a state – we can only demand our governments to do so. If your question was whether we think that it is a state, my answer would be no, as it lacks a proper government and sovereignty.

Taiwan, on the other hand, de-facto is IMO a state, as it has a functioning government and considerable sovereignty. The fact that it isn't recognised by the int'l community doesn't influence my view.

What do you think will happen when we apply net neutrality to those whose first action in power would be to abolish net neutrality?

I thought we had long since left behind us the stage of “tolerance for intolerance”...

Making message deniability more plausible.

Cryptographic repudiation provides, at least technically, a plausible deniability to senders' whose confidentiality was betrayed by the recipients.

I wrote before what we added to improve deniability: https://www.reddit.com/r/SimpleXChat/comments/1al1emd/improving_repudiation_deniability_in_simplex/

So, we're considering to add two features:

  • ability to create received messages on your device from any contact (effectively, to fake them).
  • ability to send signed messages that cannot be faked.

What do you think about it:

pixelcode,
@pixelcode@social.tchncs.de avatar

@simplex I'm very much in favour of being able to sign messages so that their authenticity can be checked, because that allows users to agree upon firm pledges and commitments.

On the other hand, the cryptographic possibility that an unsigned message has been faked is integral to deniability, which is important to have in cases where the sender doesn't trust the recipient, but in practical terms, you should not actively encourage users to fake conversations, simply for reasons of social custom.

@Tutanota I registered a free account after reading a @heiseonline article that outlined Tuta's E2EE. After a while, I decided to buy a domain for my inbox, and because back then, Tuta offered the cheapest custom-domain plan among all E2EE services known to me, I chose to upgrade.

When the price was tripled, I seriously considered switching to a provider with interoperable E2EE (e.g. Mailbox.org, same price), but extended my plan until 2026 thanks to the one-time discount for prior customers.

I have really no understanding for 's decision not to let us use the app on secondary mobile devices, like it's possible with WhatsApp on tablets. The fact that the independent client has already implemented that feature shows that it's not a technical issue but a design decision. Just try out @mollyim, it's awesome! 😎

@danie10 The SIM card doesn't really have much to do with that, because when you install Molly on your Android tablet, you can choose to link it to your existing Signal installation by scanning a QR code with your phone, just like you would when linking your desktop computer. In that scenario, Molly basically pretends to be a desktop computer despite looking and behaving like the original Signal version.

The German Federal Court of Justice has ruled that ad-blocking is not illegal. https://www.zeit.de/digital/internet/2018-04/adblocker-urteil-bgh-springer-adblock-plus

pixelcode,
@pixelcode@social.tchncs.de avatar

@taatm @theseeduneed @mc @randahl I don't think so, simply because Invidious doesn't actually host YouTube videos (“packages them as someone else's”); it rather streams them, acting as a proxy (otherwise, operating an Invidious server would be infinitely expensive). This is very similar to VPN services blocking ads (such as Mullvad and ProtonVPN, I think). Also, the court verdict wasn't really about the private use of ad-blockers, but about providing ad-blocking software to the general public. 🤷
