> "In late 2022, I blogged about the work needed to develop a specification for end-to-end encryption for the #fediverse. I sketched out some of the key management components on GitHub, and then the public work abruptly stalled. A few of you have wondered what’s the deal with that. This post covers why this effort stalled, what I’m proposing we do next."
MEP @echo_pbreyer for a long time is raising awareness of the pervasive #privacy-eroding nature of this regulation, which won't have its intended effect of protecting children.
Yes, I think they have. Not broadly, as the average person isn't aware of this stuff. But there's a large body of organizations that continues ringing the alarm bell each and every time #ChatControl rears its ugly head again.
These rather dystopic overreaching regulations are lobbied for by state actors (e.g. anti-terror). Strategy seems to be to wear out opponents until some form of the regulation is passsed. Then the next one follows, etc.
@smallcircles
The "chat control" has some nostalgic and déjà vu kinda ring to it, especially for people like me who have lived in Iran or similar places, because:
>> the chats of employees of security authorities and the military are also to be exempted from chat control.
So the affairs (romantic, sexual, political, financial, ...) of people at power are ironclad protected, but general public should live in a complete disadvantage and bring monitored.
Advocating for #Wasmcloud to adopt a OSS-first approach and use #LinuxFoundation#OpenBAO as their example of a secret store integration in upcoming RFC implementation..
@linuxfoundation projects are already seen as overly corporate, and sticking as much as possible to at least #OSS and preferably even #FOSS in docs + elaborated examples would help to not further reinforce that notion.
> "The peer production license is an example of the Copyfair type of license, in which only other commoners, cooperatives and nonprofits can share and re-use the material, but not commercial entities intent on making profit through the commons without explicit reciprocity."
I wonder how that compares to Bruce Perens' recent efforts towards post-open-source licensing (i.e., also putting certain stipulations on commercial use)
#Amazon Echo Hub reviewed in @guardian is a device that brings you firmly into #Alexa's clutches.
The word #privacy isn't mentioned at all. Because who cares about that, right?
"Amazon’s latest Alexa device feels like the missing piece in making a home fully smart"
"The #Echo Hub [..] is a cut-price option for a device that usually has to be either professionally installed, costing thousands, or a DIY job that requires more than a little expertise." 😫

#Captcha dialogs that don't work unless you turn off your #adblocker .. of course you might allow the specific #tracker that makes the captcha functional, but not always clear which one to pick.
