Men will literally burn down a rainforest to avoid giving an artist $20 to draw an image.

@Binder
On one hand, you don't know if you get what you want for $20.

On the other hand, you know you won't get what you want by burning down a rainforest.

Google introduced .ing domain names, which is surprising in that they didn't think of it earlier.

Another surprise is that the most obvious, f-word .ing domain hasn't been taken.

Then I checked the price.. 12k at the cheapest. Per year.

During the past 10 years or so, while working on various c++ projects, I have reiterated the following way too many times:

If this was c, it would already have been done.

My 2 cents on situation. If they can attract a rockstar gamer CEO (say, Carmack) who would open source unity, change licensing to be more in line with unreal, focus development efforts etc, I'm sure unity would have a great future.

What I fear is that they will hire some careful guy with a long career at IBM or Microsoft who won't take any risks and unity will slowly fade into obsolescence.

Introducing: rubber ducking as a service (RDaaS). Pay me 5€, send me email describing your bug, and by the time I'm reading your mail you've very likely figured out how to fix it.
(This is a real service, just use my ko-fi)

Was writing some z80 assembly after a long pause, and I needed to check if space was pressed on the speccy keyboard. I was feeling lazy and didn't feel like looking it up in the docs, so I asked to code it for me. Both google's and microsoft's gave confident, good-looking and entirely wrong answers. I ended up digging up the docs in the end.

Downloaded latest lts. Followed their tutorial installing it in VirtualBox. Terminal doesn't open out of the box. This is definitely the year of linux on the desktop.

I tried google's bard and asked it "what is love?" and it didn't answer "baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more", so it's clearly not an actual AI.

JIT is just modern take on self-modifying code.

Change my mind.

@sol_hsa@mastodon.online avatar

My experience with so far says that vast majority of printing problems have to do with adhesion.

I haven't been doing it for long though, so some maintenance issue will probably rise its head eventually..

Like 9 times out of 10 when my prints have failed it's because the print had gotten loose from the print bed at some point.

So, what do people use to design their models? Blender seems to work, but I'm fairly certain there are better tools for technical drawings..

Bought a cheap "weather monitor" from lidl. You know those lcd panel things that come with a remote unit or two. The main unit gets info via radio signal from the remote units.

I put the remote unit inside the fridge, and the weather station on top of it.

Works great. Can monitor the fridge temp without opening the door. Considering how dirt cheap these are, it's a great solution.

Someone should market this. Just drop the unnecessary weather crap from the display.

So let's say I'm in the market for my very first 3d printer. Suggestions?

I've looked at a few reviews and listings of "best beginner 3d printer" and everybody lists something completely different.

As a narrative designer, I'm always confused by "stories" in Agile development.

sol_hsa,
@sol_hsa@mastodon.online avatar

@grumpygamer
I'll take the question seriously (a mistake, I'm sure)..

The reason for stories is to make it so that programmers, who don't know anything about business, can communicate with business people, who don't know anything about programming.

Whether it actually works as a communication tool is another matter,

Now that I've played a bit more with asciidoc I have to say I'm a bit frustrated with it, especially regarding those graph plugins I mentioned.. every single graph plugin is written in a different language so if, for example, you want ditaa graphs you'll have to install java, etc.

I wanted things to be simpler (and the pdf/epub output is), but this is a bit more complicated than I'd like.

Funnily enough none(!) of the graph generators are written in ruby (asciidoctor is written in ruby)

You go to bed normally and wake up 100 years in the future. After being treated for the shock, you're given access to whatever is equivalent for web search at the time. What do you look up first?
