Question for developers releasing on Windows.

Is there an affordable way to sign installers for Windows for an open source project?

The code signing certificates I've seen all cost significantly more than the rate of donations to my project, but the friction unsigned installers cause is significant for the users.

@veronica Yah, I've looked at this every few years and the process seems to be aimed towards large corporations with plenty of money and people who actually get paid to jump through all the hoops.

Microsoft really needs to fix this for hobbyist developer friendly way. But they probably won't.

I have a Google Alert for my name. Half of the alerts are stories about games where I was mentioned, the other half are people named Ron Gilbert who died. It's creepy and fascinating.

Once upon a time I worked on mobile 3d game middleware called x-forge.

We had naming convention for the classes: XFcClasses were for core (like XFcGraphics), XFeClasses for engine and XFuClasses for utils.

We tried to think of a util that would start with ck, but couldn't think of one.

Unions can also be their own oppressive mess but it’s probably slightly better than what we have now. I do worry about how rigid unions would hamper true indie game work.

As a programmer I've been doing creative things nobody "sees" for decades - it's gotten to a point where it's quite likely if you live in western society you've used a program or a device with my code in it.

Would it be nice to receive royalties? Yes.

Am I entitled to it? I don't think so?

Are the writers entitled to fair contracts? Hell yes.

I really hope the TV writers can get something meaningful from the strike. I’m skeptical only because big companies taking advantage of creatives is burned into their DNA. I see this all the time. Thimbleweed Park was the first game I ever saw anything from. I am getting something from RtMI but it’s small. I’ve created a lot over the years and only made other people rich.

I've been playing Discworld this month for @dosgameclub

I'm in Act 3 (out of 4?) currently, hoping to be able to finish the game before the month is over.
