🇮🇹 Hi! I'm a guy from #Italy!

🎓 I'm studying for a Master's Degree in #ComputerScience at #Unimore!

🎮 💬 🌐 I'm currently interested in how people interact and connect with each other via technology: some things I enjoy both using and studying are #Videogames, #SocialMedia, #Chats, #FreeSoftware and the #Internet!

Intimidatory and This War of Mine join the games you can add to your and Handheld libraries! Here are the ones we found this week:

@steamdeckhq It doesn't seem to me that This War of Mine is free-to-keep, just temporarily free-to-play...!

@steamdeckhq The article says it's redeemable like Infinifactory :)

Who runs their website server in a container?

If you do: How do you provide your website's certificates to the server safely?

steffo,
@steffo@uno.starshard.studio avatar

@btp Me! The website container does not have access to the certificates, a reverse proxy handles them instead.

steffo,
@steffo@uno.starshard.studio avatar

@btp Yup, with the https://hub.docker.com/_/caddy image!

I still think modern social media shifting the focus from topics to people wasn't a great move. The way forums worked was that you opted into the things you're interested in and got a very low chance of seeing topics you disliked. And even if you did, not opening the thread was a surefire way to get rid of it from your view.

Now you subscribe to people who will post about anything. You carefully have to consider if the things-I-like to things-I-dislike ratio works for you, but unless you're extremely strict you will get topics in your timeline you may hate. Getting rid of unwanted content takes substantial amount of discipline in who you follow and usage of mutes and word filters. The latter of which is, quite frankly, a joke. And I think this is the root for a lot of "discourses" nowadays.

steffo,
@steffo@uno.starshard.studio avatar

@volpeon @__Styx__ supporting multiple channels per user is the main reason behind 's recent boom as a social media platform and i think would work really well for the fediverse too

we already have something vaguely like that with mastodon "subscribe to the selected post languages"; i feel it would be a great idea to expand that to custom user-defined categories!

@nekothegamer @cnx i don't notice any difference from Element (non-X) at first glance beyond its layout being the legacy one 😅

where should i check?
(i know live location is in labs, but so is in Element)

Did... did just pull a Discord by trying to make me gift a Premium subscription to one of my contacts?

A gift icon came up in the message bar, which made a window appear when clicking on it, but I dismissed it too fast to notice what was written on it and now it's gone...

steffo,

@cnx i wish matrix was anywhere comparable for everyday use...

i'm experimenting with building my own client, but i'm not yet anywhere close 🙁

Lethal Company seems to be played by a whole bunch of different vtubers these days wow

steffo,
@steffo@uno.starshard.studio avatar

@lanodan Seems like everybody lately has been playing Lethal Company, it keeps topping the Steam Top Sellers chart...!

(And that's without considering the pretty large amount of pirated copies that I speculate are being distributed, Spacewar seems to have almost doubled the amount of players in the last month...)

PSA: Christmas-themed (ironically) Easter eggs can be naturally revealed today. Here are some that I know:

  • Hedgewars
  • mpv
  • SuperTux 2
  • SuperTuxKart

This list is incomplete; you can help by expanding it. I’d prefer to only be informed of those for libre software, but who am I to tell you what to (not) do?

Once again, seems to have a good summary of the specification: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Web_Authentication_API

Might give implementing this a try in the afternoon...

please use an inclusive language when refer to mouse buttons: as a leftie, i feel marginalized when instructed to left or right click; instead prefer neutral terms such as primary and secondary for mouse buttons

With all the extremely complex features being added to HTML, one would expect a simple attribute on an image to delay loading until it is visible. E.g.:

<img lazy="visible" src="image.png">

This image would load only when it is inside the current visible area, and not earlier (so if the user doesn't scroll down to the image, then the user agent never loads it).

Edit: such at attribute exists, it’s loading=lazy. See comments.
