I still think modern social media shifting the focus from topics to people wasn't a great move. The way forums worked was that you opted into the things you're interested in and got a very low chance of seeing topics you disliked. And even if you did, not opening the thread was a surefire way to get rid of it from your view.

Now you subscribe to people who will post about anything. You carefully have to consider if the things-I-like to things-I-dislike ratio works for you, but unless you're extremely strict you will get topics in your timeline you may hate. Getting rid of unwanted content takes substantial amount of discipline in who you follow and usage of mutes and word filters. The latter of which is, quite frankly, a joke. And I think this is the root for a lot of "discourses" nowadays.

@volpeon @__Styx__ supporting multiple channels per user is the main reason behind #Telegram's recent boom as a social media platform and i think would work really well for the fediverse too

we already have something vaguely like that with mastodon "subscribe to the selected post languages"; i feel it would be a great idea to expand that to custom user-defined categories!

@lanodan Seems like everybody lately has been playing Lethal Company, it keeps topping the Steam Top Sellers chart...!

(And that's without considering the pretty large amount of pirated copies that I speculate are being distributed, Spacewar seems to have almost doubled the amount of players in the last month...)

A gift icon came up in the message bar, which made a window appear when clicking on it, but I dismissed it too fast to notice what was written on it and now it's gone...

The Italian city of Bologna has launched a campaign for kids that spend too long playing video games.
Slogans such as "Enough! I will give away your console to the first person I meet!" and "Stop the videogame, connect to life".
Doesn't it feel like 1982 again?
Also ironical that Bologna is one of the most active Italian cities in regards to game development and industry events.
Or maybe not.

I find wild how in Italian we still use the same word to describe gambling and videogaming, and how it leads to people confusing gambling addiction with videogame addiction...

Then again, considering how many mobile games and AAA games contain lootboxes and real-money gambling elements, perhaps it isn't so strange that people confuse the two...

If a Metroid spin-off game were to be made by Nintendo, what would you like it to be?

No mainline games, no Prime games, not even remakes or reboots of older games. A completely new Metroid spin-off. It could have the same gameplay with different characters and location or we could see Samus in a whole different game. Pinball demonstrates that the possibilities are endless....
