Wrote some tests reluctantly on ~50 LoC of “mostly glue code”. Ended up getting sucked in and wrote 350 LoC tests, got to 99.5% coverage, found three bugs and clarified two undefined behaviours. Time to write all this was commensurate with the rest of the dev time, even.

Also properly learned sinon.js in the process. It is very good and worth knowing.

Conclusion: testing, it’s good!

OK, a serious and burning question: why do we have sex scenes in so many films to begin with?

Like, I came here to see a sci-fi film about time-traveling murderbots. Why is there 30 seconds of moaning and bad softcore erotica in the middle of my cybernetic murder spree? I'm sitting there awkwardly and thinking to myself: Mr. or Mrs. filmmaker, what exactly do you want me to do?!

I know it's a part of life, but we don't show the protagonist picking their nose or taking a dump. Why not just stick to wholesome murderbots?

When I moved to Berlin in 2007, one of the first things I did was attend a Linux user group conference. I had the choice between an in-depth IPv4 or equivalent IPv6 workshop.

I chose IPv4 and it has served me VERY well in the past 16 years both privately and professionally and I am fully convinced I made the right choice.

The number of “use CRDTs to automatically resolve conflicts, but what that really means is our solution arbitrarily throw away user data”-incidents went up by one.

I swear I do not want to get old-man-yells-at-tech-cranky, but COME ON people, we have been over this many, many times.

You either have to force devs to think about and implement conflict resolution OR you can’t have automatic and reliable data sync.

The real enemy is excess: too much of [insert anything] is bad for you. A glas of wine daily gets you to old age (at least if you are a French wine grower). A bottle every few hours gets you under a bridge and into the „liver like concrete“ club

They like to attribute that to their product, but it’s pretty obvious their lifestyle: lots of movement, lots of nature, balanced diet & low stress levels (nobody does management pep talks to grapes or pushes vines to “work harder” and “increase shareholder value “)

    @reginagrogan Struggled with it too. Got: too many redirects. At the end: deployed LetsEncrypt on my server’s Nginx http and set Cloudflare’s https to strict - that worked for me. What’s your trouble?
