Setting up child / accounts for my 2 youngest kids.... was just about the most unfriendly user experience I've ever had.

The Live ecosystem that MS uses for accounts just redirects you constantly, forgets who's logged in. Keeps having to re-authenticate me but sometimes it asks for an email sometimes it emails a code. It's anybody's guess!

So I'm juggling access to my email, my 2 kids' emails. Some stuff needs an app because the website can't do it. I had 3 browsers open....

I am plagued lately by websites that do weird #UI things & just lose all my typed comment.

Facebook's mobile website does it if I minimize my phone's keyboard.

#WordPress .com just did it when I typed a long meticulous comment & entered my name & email which it recognized as belonging to an account so it prompted me to log in. After I did so, I was returned to the blog post.... my comment vanished into the ether.

I just. It's so demoralizing.

Seeing a trend of more & more #ecommerce websites not letting you even into the website at all until you sign in or give an email address.

Walmart(dot)ca did it to me yesterday until I tried a private browsing tab. And Wayfair today.

Is this the new tactic since browsers are getting more privacy focused?

Never thought I'd see paywalls just to shop!

Guess I'm going to be submitting more no@eff-off.com emails going forward. ๐Ÿ˜ก

I've been working on a #WordPress plugin for a client that generates custom PDF worksheet printouts for teachers. And it's turning out SO awesome that I'm basically high on coding satisfaction today. ๐Ÿ˜

Does anyone know how to view the alt text of an image on the mobile website?

I see the little badge indicating alt text exists but if I click it, it just opens the image.

The kids, husband, & I have been taking classes at our local rec center for a few years. Our dojo is part of Gojuโ€Ryu Canada. The kids have their first belt levels but husband & I have been doing it casually & haven't tested. Well we decided to go for it & will be taking the test next month. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

It's tough because we are shown the katas a couple times in class then are expected to practice at home without any reference. So of course I went hunting on Youtube...

Ok fans... I need some guidance.

My 3 kids (& husband & I) are starting to have more struggles sharing one console & I think it might be time to invest in a 2nd Switch. But! I have some questions:

  • Do we think Nintendo's next console is coming soon? The Switch is 7 years old...

  • Does the Lite version still pair with pro controllers? Any cons to the Lite other than can't dock it?

  • Will my kids have to 'pick one' for their account to reside on??

My son (12y) has been making a new game in #GameBuilderGarage on #Switch. It's a cannon wars type game (set the angle & power & shoot your opponent).

This program lets you drag & drop logic & effect blocks and connect them together.

Look at this insanity! GBG is both very cool and an utter affront to #coding. ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

Took over maintenance of a new client's site.... and a suspicious stack trace on an error message led me to finding DOZENS of randomly named files & core WP files with obfuscated code in them. ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

I've never seen such a thoroughly compromised site before. Uuug.

It's utterly ridiculous to me that doesn't have a "Create Desktop Launcher" right-click menu option in the Applications browser alongside Add to Favorites.

The fact that I have to manually create a desktop launcher, or copy one from /usr/share/applications is a usability fail.

Can anyone recommend a program for sketching out maps for #TTRPGs. Not necessarily gridded maps to play on.... but say I want to make a map of the country side or a city?

Something with pre loaded icons for things like mountains & forests. Where I can draw lakes & roads & label POIs?

Just watched a local production of a play (in French) titled "J'ai pรชtรฉ du thรฉรขtre."

GPT when pronounced in sounds like "J'ai pรชtรฉ" which means "I farted".

So the the title of their play is "I farted theatre". (Or "GPT Theatre".)

About a writer who uses to write scenes for their play & the hilarious nonsense it creates.

The teens have already nailed down the meta joke about this whole situation & it slapped. ๐Ÿคฃ

I do most of my personal & business at a local Credit Union (Canada), and I'm generally very happy with them. Great personal service.

But I was recently recommended Wealth Simple for their high interest cash account... and damn, 4% for money that's just sitting there is great!!

So I signed up and wow, they have got their website & app dialed in! So easy & smooth.

Ahh yes, the ole "you spent $28.24 at GOOGLE *SERVICES with your card ending..."

My fav part is how the charge appears before you receive any kind of email, and before it appears in your Google Play transaction history.

I had to check through 3 Google accounts, past emails & my #finance notes to realize this was #CraveTV renewing even though I was sure I had cancelled.

Big companies using #Google to manage subscriptions is infuriating.

Wrote a script to use WP-CLI to dump the database, then to sync the files to Dropbox.

It pings HealthChecks.io to monitor progress & success/fail.

That was finally working well. ๐Ÿ‘

Then calling it from a revealed the need to use full paths to commands like & WP-CLI. Took a bit to find (force) the logging of the cron to see what was wrong.

Still unclear why some commands (curl, etc) work fine.

Anyway... this is coming along!

My kids discovered the Air Bender adventure world DLC for ... and were over the moon excited about it. Spent $15 of their eShop money from Christmas to buy it.

And it's super, super glitchy. ๐Ÿ˜“
(Hell Minecraft in general on is bug ridden.)

Got a bit turned around searching for off-server cloud backup options.

Where do people do this? To some kind of static/cdn type service like S3 or Spaces? To a second VPS? To cloud backup services like Dropbox/Drive/Etc?

Was hoping to use the client's existing DropBox account which has lots of storage.

Went down a rabbit hole but then found Rclone (cloud wrapper for Rsync) which looks like a good fit. Got a proof of concept working. ๐Ÿ‘
