@gruber Yep, the LinkedIn website has a really hostile looking UI and UX 🤣 I mostly use the mobile apps for LinkedIn which are usually a little less in your face.

@verge @stroughtonsmith Perhaps one of the reasons why mobile Safari has dragged for so long in usability compared to the desktop version is Apple wanting more native apps for their 30% cut. 🤔

All I know is that if you try using iPad Safari to edit an Atlassian Confluence page (or some other similar wiki-style web editing) it doesn’t take long to become so frustrated by mobile Safari’s limitations that you want to smash your iPad with a hammer!

visionOS needs a real desktop class browser!

My understanding is the single headstrap with all the brand adjectives is only good for short stints and marketing photos, but any real usage requires the [comfortable] double-strap band.

…which I guess is why Apple is taking a lot of photos of people wearing the headset today, because by the time anybody's used them at length for full reviews, they'll have switched to the other strap 🥲

@appleinsider iPads are costly enough as it is and the M series iPads are still hobbled by the OS. The value just isn’t there for these products anymore.

The Audible iOS app redesign has some very curious UI performance issues on macOS that don't seem to be present on iPadOS at all, even with window resizing. I wonder what part of the system they're hitting that's biting back so hard. You have to work pretty hard to get sub-1fps on Apple Silicon

@stroughtonsmith I don’t know if it performs any better on the latest iPhones, but I could routinely crash the Audible app on iOS (on iPhone 12 Pro Max) just by navigating through multiple levels of the UI while browsing for audio books. The performance degradation increased the more I navigated around until the app crashed. The app’s UI was never silky smooth to use for me. I haven’t used the app for a month or so. Has it been “improved” on iOS recently?

@HilliTech I’ve been using the Bing App to use “Copilot” (aka Bing-chat) for a while now. Basically this Copilot app does the same thing, but is limited to just the ChatGPT / DALLE functionality.

It would be nice if Microsoft added shortcuts support to this app; could then plug it into something like S-GPT that @viticci created for using OpenAI’s GPT service. Doubt they’ll allow that on the free platform though.

I have a 1TB, almost stock Fusion Drive Mac that's become super slow with no apps running. There's almost nothing installed. Finder and the about screen report the drive is over half empty, but Disk Utility and Omni Disk Sweeper reports it's nearly full. Anyone else run into this behavior? The disk doesn't appear to be corrupt in First Aid.

Pretty interested in the end of year roundup scores for iPad, because it has not had a great 2023 at all. No new products, no real new features other than the leftovers of last year's iPhone release, and less than what I would say was the minimum effort on addressing the issues with the design and functionality of Stage Manager (which should have been done a year earlier, in 16.2).

Even Final Cut Pro/Logic, which don't support window resizing at all, can't save the score

@stroughtonsmith I’d give iPad an F- and as visionOS is so rooted in iPadOS, I have the same concerns for the visionPro and its apps which will suffer the same limitations due to the OS. At this stage the only reason I see to use visionPro would be as a virtual display for my Mac or having a more immersive video watching experience and that doesn’t justify the price tag.

The only reason the app has a high rating in the is because of people who review the audio books instead of the actual app. 🙄🤷‍♂️ If people actually reviewed the app as they should be, the rating would be far lower as the app has a lot of performance problems and is prone to crashing! It’s annoying how little effort and resources is putting into this app on iOS, does it run any better on ?

Shame doesn’t currently have an subscription service.

I know Apple told me that I should be getting the M3 Pro chip as a developer and not an AI researcher or video editor, but damn it, I'm getting the M3 Max to run Xcode and edit 4-track Logic projects and there's nothing they can do about it

@marcoarment The memory configuration options for the M3 Pro chip are ridiculously inadequate, so you’re pretty much forced to go to the M3 Max anyway. 🤷‍♂️
