@OutofPrintArchive Vastly underrated game, but I don't think that '70' is an unfair score. It's a must-play for any fan of Into Dreams and I think that it mostly succeeds as a sequel. If they re-released it as a 'directors cut' or something with no cutscenes, it'd be a 10x better game. The graphics are also quite booty for the Wii, but time will be more forgiving in that respect.

vencabot,
@vencabot@mastodon.online avatar

@OutofPrintArchive Yeah, I agree and that's a good point. I think that Journey of Dreams gets more hate than is due; I love the variety of 'mini games', I like the stages and bosses. I agree that the score-attack aspect is way better in the first game, but maybe that doesn't bother me as much because I score attacked the first time so hard for so long. At some point, there's really not much more you can do in NiGHTS, but maybe you'd disagree.

vencabot,
@vencabot@mastodon.online avatar

@OutofPrintArchive Once you have the stages routed, it kinda feels like you're just doing The Thing anyway, over and over, so maybe that's why it didn't bother me as much that, like you said, the stages in Journey of Dreams don't have as much replay value. But the bird was definitely shittier than the ideya captures.

Woohoo. Just bought the full set (I believe) of Sega Force magazines.
Not cheap, but I’ll save on shipping this way, instead of hunting for a couple of issues here and there and then paying €20 shipping for each order.

Remember how I said that the Purple ninja in Sekiro was easy when I realised that there aren't 2 different kanji that pop up like someone said there were in a tutorial video and thus I was trying to counter when I had to jump over them?

Well, let's do this again, but he has 2 health bars.
Ok, nothing too crazy.
But also do it in a confined tunnel where you don't see anything when you get pushed into a wall due to the camera going nuts... :cat_ick:

Over an hour later and he's finally dead. 💀

vencabot,
@vencabot@mastodon.online avatar

@OutofPrintArchive That fucking room is so annoying. FromSoft, you know this camera is ass. Why make me fight someone so fast in such an enclosed space. T_T

vencabot,
@vencabot@mastodon.online avatar

@OutofPrintArchive I'm also playing through the game for the first time. My advice would be to explore in lots of different directions and get those prayer beads for increased stats, beat any bosses you can before facing the ones that are harder for you, since they raise your stats, too. It makes a huuuuuge difference.

vencabot,
@vencabot@mastodon.online avatar

@OutofPrintArchive Yeah, the camera in this game can be brutal. Most of the time it's tolerable, but that fight in particular is funny because... why in this tiny room, where the camera is going to be at its absolute worst?

Why are podcasts and YouTube videos concerned about length? I always hear people say "we don't have time" or "we're running out of time". They're not on network TV. Go ahead and take the time, storage for your extra few megs of content won't break the bank. That's the beauty of this type of content, you can take as long as you like.

vencabot,
@vencabot@mastodon.online avatar

@shadowfacts @gabek This. As a content creator, I can tell you that it's a constant challenge to keep videos under a certain length. In my case, it has less to do with being concerned about platforms' algorithms and more to do with the fact that I don't want for viewers to be intimidated out of watching by long video lengths. I understand that my viewers have more to do than just watch my content and they might not want to budget in a 3 hour video.

I haven't played all of the games on this list, but I'm thinking it's gotta be Link's Awakening if there can be only one!

@OutofPrintArchive @JoeyPajamas Strong recommend for playing it on a modern Saturn emulator, like Beetle Saturn (RetroArch). The Steam version is also very good, and it includes very accurate approximations of both the Saturn release and the PS2 version, including their respective differences in physics / handling.

All of the versions are great for new players, but superfans (like myself) get caught up in the minutia.

vencabot,
@vencabot@mastodon.online avatar

@OutofPrintArchive @JoeyPajamas As explained, it's a gorgeous, fascinating score-attack game that was misunderstood in its era and is still misunderstood today.

It was criticized by the press at the time for not having truly 3D gameplay in an era where that was seen as a sleight -- maybe even false advertising. Completing the game's early stages is trivial, but the final stage can't be completed without learning the mechanics. Most players didn't understand that and didn't bother.

On my way home. It’s been so cool the past few days being able to talk to people about Owncast in person. I rarely have a chance to do that. Everyone can say “I love virtual” all they want, but get a bunch of great people in a room and magic happens. That doesn’t happen on Jitsi.

SILENT HILL (PSX, 1999) is streaming on Owncast!

gabek, to iOS

I was going to wait to talk about this until I could actually release it, but it’s becoming unlikely that will happen.

A few months ago I built an and app for watching streams natively on your phone and tv. You could browse the directory, or add your own private servers that aren’t listed publicly. It would send you push notifications when your favorite streams went live and it all worked pretty well.

Apple has been unable to understand how the “rights” work in this case. I can’t get them to understand that people opt into the directory, and the Owncast project owns and runs the directory. Instead they see it as me “using content without rights” and “accessing a catalog without proper rights”. They asked me to provide the paperwork detailing the agreement I have with every Owncast server. Clearly that’s impossible. The number of servers that want to be public on the directory change every day, I couldn’t send them new documentation every day. I tried to explain that the directory is kind of like a search engine and the application is like a browser. A browser doesn’t have explicit rights to every webpage ever made, as that would be ridiculous. I also tried to compare it to a podcast client. A podcast client can play back any podcast without asking for permission, and there are tons of podcast directories.

They’ll approve the application if I don’t use the directory and don’t have any Owncast servers directly available from the application, however. But I’m not willing to do that as that kind of defeats the point of the convenience.

I contacted a handful of attorneys, and I was willing to fight this. I hoped if I could get an attorney to draft a document that explains, in legal terms, something that Apple’s legal team would understand it could be cleared up. But I haven’t been able to have a meaningful conversation with any of them, as none of them understand what I’m doing or aren’t interested in working with a non-corporate entity.

So I think this is dead, killed by Apple. I tried to build something cool for you all, as a side project, to make viewing Owncast streams more convenient. It’s just not going to happen and I feel bad about it.

Why does Rock have hair but X canonically doesn't?

vencabot,
@vencabot@mastodon.online avatar

@xan Reading this got me thinking, so here's my spitballing: Rock also had a cute little sister, and pets. In general, we see that X seems to be thought of & treated more like a tool. In Light's era, the robot master were "Mans", where-as in X's time many of the reploids are animals and more.

And X doesn't have hair.

Maybe there was some regret, in Rockman's time, about humanizing the robots so much? Maybe Rockman gets destroyed and the heartache informs the new designs to be less sentimental.
