    The portal was partially hidden behind a stack of circus trolleys, but Lily wouldn't have missed it even if she hadn't stepped across the rails and into the middle of the street. Not only could she hear it--the tinkling of glass curtains or the faint, faraway patter of a snare drum--but she could SMELL it. The portal emitted a scent like cookies; chocolate and daffodils and sugar and warm summer rain with a hint of vanilla. Without Greta's warning, Lily wouldn't have known it was all a lie.
