Morning, how are you today? I feel like I am coming down with something, I woke up with a headache and gummy eyes and now my throat is sore. Not what I need for a full day of important training, ugh. I shall power through with the aid of paracetamol and lozenges. Miss Cinnamon is moving from windowsill to windowsill monitoring the man who is cleaning our gutters, she doesn’t trust him at all. Right, I’d better go and get set up for this training. Have a thantastic Thursday everyone!

woodsiegirl,

@purplepadma That's a job perk of gutter/window cleaners I hadn't considered: getting to meet lots of cats (as they watch you suspiciously from the other side of the window) 😻

woodsiegirl,

@purplepadma If that was my job I would definitely carry something like a laser pointer or some dangly cat toys so I could try to play with the kitties 😻

Hey Mastodon, can I tell you a fact I've been obsessed with since I learned it last year? You know that time in early spring when you just wake up one day and suddenly everything is green, as if it happened overnight? That happens when we have 10 hours of daylight - that is the magic amount that encourages everything to grow. The day when we have 10 hours of daylight is sometimes called "Persephone Day" - it's when she returned from the underworld!

woodsiegirl,

We get a day with 10 hours of daylight, all the plants go "welp, time to grow...", and about 7-14 days later EVERYTHING is green. It's my favourite time of year, it makes my heart happy 💚 🌱

Delighted to announce that the UK, from south to north, will see our Persephone Days over the next fortnight! Starting with The Lizard in Cornwall on 14 Feb, up to John O'Groats in Scotland on 23 Feb 🌞

woodsiegirl,

Where I am in West Yorkshire, our Persephone Day falls on 18th Feb - just a week away! So keep an eye out for an explosion of greenery around the end of Feb 🌼 🌷 🌳

woodsiegirl,

@louisffourie Ah yes, I was wondering if it might be different in different temperature regions! I suspect the 10 hours thing probably varies a lot the further away from (or closer to!) the equator you get.

Owning a black cat who likes to lurk in shadowy corners means constantly mistaking random objects for said cat. Things I have said pspsps to recently include a pair of boots, a discarded hoodie, the hoover, and an Amazon box

woodsiegirl,

This morning I actually reached out to pet my partner's black t shirt that he'd dropped on the bed. In my defence, I had just woken up, am extremely short-sighted and hadn't put my glasses on yet...

@Adam_Cadmon1 Yeppppp... I heard a saying recently that "if you meet an asshole, you've met an asshole. If everyone you meet is an asshole, then the asshole is you".

I haven't done this in a while but please tell me your "did you know??" fact that's burning you up right now

    woodsiegirl,

@checkervest Scar tissue is basically collagen, that your body continually produces. One of the symptoms of scurvy is that you produce less and less collagen (as collagen synthesis requires vitamin c), so all of your old wounds can open up again 😱

Which is gross! But also really fascinating, in that your old wounds are never gone, your body is just constantly working to hold them together. There's a metaphor in that somewhere...

What's the technical term for when you start measuring something to evaluate it, but then that shifts over time to people trying to meet the target not to do the actual thing.

Happens a lot in schools with exam results.

    I know there is one.

What does your cat smell like (their fur)
    ?

    woodsiegirl,

@futurebird Generally he just smells of clean fur. But in the summer his favourite napping spot is under the lavender bushes in our garden, so then he smells of lavender 💜

@woodsiegirl hello :ablobcatwave: Just a quick question for <reasons>, I was curious how you are finding glammr.us? Is it a nice community there, and a well run server? Thank you

    woodsiegirl,

@teapot_ben Hello lovely teapot! Yes I'm really enjoying glammr.us. It's heavier on the archives than on the library side, and also a bit US-dominated, but is a nice community and have met some cool folks here! No cause for complaint on the admin side either 😊

How do you think Trump is prepping for this mug shot? Do you think he’ll contour?

    woodsiegirl,

@ryanhoulihan I'm hoping he's finally learned how to blend his under eye concealer...

A nice thing I've gained from Mastodon: today was flying ant day (at least, in my corner of the UK). Usually that would really gross me out. BUT, following @futurebird on here has really helped me appreciate how cool and interesting these little creatures are! Which has helped me come to terms with getting covered in horny ants every time I go outside 🤣

I once watched a little old lady sit down on the Tube opposite me, smile and pull a full size mint Viennetta out of her shopping bag.

She proceeded to eat it like a giant choc-ice.

I aspire to age with that much style.

    woodsiegirl,

    @garius Life. Goals.

@airwhale Thank you! That's good readability advice. My blogging style tends towards "brain dump" so improving the readability with headings and summaries is a good shout :)

No, google, I don't want a toothbrush for an alpaca, I need one with an alpaca on it.

    Aargh, toddlers.

    woodsiegirl,

@samanthahalf huh. So toothbrushes for alpacas exist? What a world...
