Some stuff I decided to put on codeberg.

Also, high five if you recognize the fucking hell hole that is that background landscape.

Oh... I think it just got tired of being abused (this laptop has ~7 years of life)

The GPU itself died last year, after some hardcore 17 fps gaming lmao (I think the last game I played on it was Dinkum)

Wanna try something crazy? Go to a mastodon instance like this one and put @asklemmy@lemmy.ml on the searchbar there.

or do the inverse, look for someone local to mastodon, like @stux@mstdn.social and search in our searchbar. Result.

I think this works even for unfederated things, then by doing that you end up federating them to the whole server.

edit: I say this because sometimes I tried searching for something/someone specific on another domain and nothing came up :S

mycus,
mycus avatar

That's some John Carpenter level shit

mycus,
mycus avatar

It's the computer turn and it decided to play one of the white pieces and then paint it black (since op is coding it and I assume it's not finished), I guess.

mycus,
mycus avatar

there is an issue about it on the main repo.

It is intended but I agree, maybe just remove the whole field when the mag is federated, or show the real owners in the specific instance that the magazine belongs to.

mycus,
mycus avatar

google planepassant

it only works with towers btw

mycus,
mycus avatar

but they can write malware and commit it to their repos.

the question is how long will it take for someone to recognize it. ie.: how well obfuscated is it?

not saying they gonna do it, just that doesn't trust any code just bc they are open source

mycus,
mycus avatar

I'm just saying someone new in software development reading the comment I replied may misinterpret part of what they are saying as "all open source software is trustable" and reinforce that notion.

I'm not saying that lemmy devs have a higher chance of doing it bc they are tankies or whatever, no. They have no history of doing that and the project is so big and important that they really wouldn't risk it; it is indeed a bit silly to defend my point in this specific thread, now that I think about it.

also, like @minimar said, it's not how it works. most kind of obfuscation in open source code actually makes it easier to identify it as harmful. they are also found in libraries 99% of the time, not at the open source software repo itself. also, rust has no history of any harmful library.

anyway, sorry if I gave the wrong idea haha. just looking out for people who might have that notion, like I had.

I got a brick set (lemmy.world)

This set is not the cheapest brick set you can get and is not FIDE approved, but I got it because I wanted vintage (resists moisture even after 80 years) and wanted a set that still feels valuable. A Sayer & Fisher (omg a chess reference) Company's initials engraved on the bricks was a plus....

isn't === the one that compare types first?

I just tried on node and 0 == '0' returns true

found the real reason

mycus, (edited )
mycus avatar

JS null and undefined shenanigans

basically:

  1. bigger an lesser comparison types convert null to zero, so is zero bigger or lesser than zero? no
  2. == is fucky and to it null only equals undefined and undefined only equals null (and themselves), so no
  3. is zero bigger than or equal to zero? yeah

@mycus@mycus@kbin.social I’m still confused. You’re saying I will eventually not see this message, and posts to that community will start to populate there instead? That shouldn’t take more than minutes. It’s been 10.

mycus, (edited )
mycus avatar

@shoq Yeah, I'm trying to search as many magazines as I can and none of them show any posts over at @mastodon.social. Bummer :\

The same can't be said about lemmy's communities, though. @linux@lemmy.ml for instance (ha), works just fine. I guess it's just because kbin isn't as mature yet.

Although this makes me wonder, can you follow a whole instance domain over there? like following @beehaw.org, for example.

edit: apparently not. but issue is open

shoq, to random
@shoq@mastodon.social avatar

So, what’s the general consensus on Lemmy? Is it a toxic project with questionable roots, or just one with some really bad PR? The app is not especially impressive to me, thus far, but I’m told it’s more advanced than Kbin, and I may not be configured properly.

mycus,
mycus avatar

@shoq
You can, but apparently it is pretty weird rn

I am not sure, but I think that if you actually start following a magazine from kbin it will only then start federating with your feed.

As in someone from your instance has to manually interact with it to make it federated for the rest.

edit: the link isn't working the way I intended, try searching for the magazine in your instance's search bar; @RedditMigration@kbin.social

YSK that it is not a proper way to wash your fruits and veggies with soap

Why YSK this is that some of the soap absorbs into the fruit, especially berries, and let's say you are washing your cherries with dish soap, and you eat them. That story ends with a long bathroom trip as soap makes you a little queasy. ETA: Nobody has heard about this?! I see it in the southeast where I live.

mycus,
mycus avatar

@grus Yeah, my parents did it as long as I can remember.

My wife asked around (she was weirded out by it too) after we moved states and people do it across the country too, it is pretty common here. I'm living in the south now.

Not gonna lie, I think I'll do a bit of research on the topic. This whole thread was sort of a reality check for me haha.
