andreaswiedenhoff, The #Auckland 🇳🇿 to #Wellington #KiwiRail #GreatJourneysNZ “Northern Explorer” has got a lovely #Café @diningcar. Time to head for a nice New Zealand breakfast. (And time to make this post as long as we’ve got mobile network coverage.)
andreaswiedenhoff,
paulhellyer, One reason for my recent trip down south was to meet with a cousin who has inherited some old family photo albums. Here is one such photo. For residents of Te Whanganui-A-Tara this photo, taken in March 1934 (90 years ago), of the Karori tunnel will be instantly recognisable. Taken by my great-Uncle.
cestfleuve, Anyone in #Wellington looking for a cleaner?
- $65 for 2 hours and $95 for 3
- I clean with the products in your house
- I have a list of everything I use, if you're unsure
- Can arrange pricing for bringing my own supplies
- ADHD-friendly
- Vaccinated
- Non-judgemental
I'm looking to add 2 regular cleans to my roster, be that 1 weekly clean or 2 fortnightly cleans. I'm also open to monthly cleans, and for the next four months I have extra availability for one-off cleans.
kjsgeo, Remember these? Slowly fading into oblivion, but if you pay attention you can still find quite a few scattered across the footpaths of #Wellington.
We just had to stay to the left, when passing others.
#BlastFromThePast #COVID19 #Pandemic #Nostalgia
timClicks, @kjsgeo I feel the same way as I see the residue from distance markers slowly fading. Once upon a time, people cared and people were kind.
ChirpyTurnip, Back in NZ, first time back in Wellington CBD to catch up with some friends. Just arrived at the station to catch a train back home....but no.
All the trains are stopped.
Replaced by buses.
The next one goes in an hour.
So now I'm stuck here.
Why is this country such a backward sh*t hole????
Seriously??? How hard can it possibly be not to screw up practically everything?
kjsgeo, My walkabouts through #Wellington never fail to turn up surprises, often in the form of residential #architecture. Today it was the back streets of the Newtown suburb.
Made all the more legit conducted in an eye-stinging gale.

Kenno, Ah, a beautiful Moon Arch, similar to a Moon door in Chinese architecture. But lots of other design features here too, that window bending around a corner is a thing too. Oh, and the floating red gate, to a laundry? Great documentation, and sometimes I think is gets a bit boring here, Ha!
karawswanson, For whoever needs it: #friday #AcWriting #AmWriting #wellington
karawswanson, In #Wellington, #NZ, next to the parliament building, the walk icons are a silhouette of #NZ's most famous suffragist, Kate Sheppard, who helped secure the vote for women in 1893. How cool is that! #histodons #womensHist
LouisIngenthron, @karawswanson What? So they made a critical safety mechanism less safe to put an unrecognizable silhouette in where a solid green light is needed?
What's wrong with a sign or a statue or a plaque or something?
JamesK, @karawswanson @melissabeartrix That is really cool.

bitshifter, Summer finally arrived in #wellington, went for an epic #mtb ride to Mt Kaukau then to Mākara Peak, downhill then home.
Bike with Wellington City in the background from Skyline track opposite Wilton.
kategenevieve, The crowds singing waiata outside Parliament sing out of longing for the safety and freedom of real people, real humans - and ask more people in to stand together against an unconscionable collective punishment that is worse by the day.
kategenevieve, powerful speeches from the heart at these protests - centering love and standing together for justice and peace.
kjsgeo, Yeah, I'd say that southerly squall predicted to hit #Wellington as of 3pm has fully arrived, and right on time 😲 Now comes the thunder and lightening. #Weather #NewZealand
Rjdlandscapes, @kjsgeo was pretty wild passing canty
Kay, Got home just before #ThunderStorm hit #Wellington. Rescued a bedraggled #cat who can come inside but doesn't want to. 🐈 ⛈️
She is now towelled dry in the laundry with a fresh towel to sit on and her food and water bowls. Will she stay there? Who knows? #cats 🙄

I don't think laying new track was on any of the agendas.🙁

lightweight,
kjsgeo, Is it just me or are vape shops slowly taking over central #Wellington?
I reckon there are 4-5x more shops along the CBD streets I frequent than were there as of the start of this year.
Most are bare-bones, so I guess easy to establish, but is there that much demand to support that growth? #Vapeification
zeborah, @kjsgeo My suburb is very much "I see you like vape shops so we put a vape shop between the vape shop and the vape shop."
There's a scientific explanation for why shops of the same kind cluster together, I forget where I read it. But I comfort myself that there were thousands of yoghurt shops for a short while too.
paulhellyer, Sad news that New World Metro at the Wellington Railway Station is closing in March 2024. Lots of people use it: school kids in the morning, office workers getting their breakfast - and their lunches, and those, like me, who are occasionally asked to pick up some bread or tomatoes on the way home. Expensive compared to other supermarkets but was definitely filling a need.
christopherd, @paulhellyer @leighelse It is absolutely fantastic when I visit friends in Wgton and use the train to go to/from town. I stop to get some wine / cheese etc on my way back to my friends place. Shame that it is closing.
paulhellyer, @christopherd @leighelse It is almost as if people want to live in cities where everything is within 15 minutes! 🤣
iangriffin, So... just for larks I took my Infrared camera on @airnz flight 680 from #DunedinNZ to #Wellington earlier this morning. The sun was rising but the rivers and mountains really stand out in the IR! #airnewzealandshareme #landscape
kjsgeo,
T, #Wellington #LowerHutt peeps, where’s the best place to get an off-cut of carpet sized 2.10m x 2.95m.?
Not too fussed about colour.
