Good morning music fellas and welcome to a new (by @loewe)!!!

Yesterday (to no one's surprise) I got tickets for three amazing women. Let me bring you them today.

First, you know her, probably my most favourite artist of the past years. I bring you today the song that made me fell in love with her music.

Emma Ruth Rundle "Protection"

A year ago I knew nothing about her. RYM tagged her as "pop" (among others) yet... she was in the program for Wacken '23! Whatever she would make, I could not miss it. If she was in Wacken, she must be worth of it. And oh my she was.

And she is releasing a new album in a month and I am curious to see what she will come up with. For now, a new single.

Stumbled across this article late last night. Listened to a couple tracks. Picked up the album today.
Sounds like it's right up my alley: a little , maybe some , and dash of Cluster & perhaps some Yay! New !

@kevinbowen Apparently I have listened to a lot of “shoe gaze” before without ever knowing the term. Thanks.

Heh. That's fantastic!

Being accidentally hip is even cooler than trying to be hip! Shoegaze is cool, daddy-o!

#OPM: Vampire Tree - Self-titled

@limneticvillains

Oh my goth, this pushes some nice buttons, drawing on the legacy of some of the best to blend rock with electronics. Radiohead, TV on the Radio, Liars –all of that with an added dash of #shoegaze and #goth spicing things up. Understated vocals deliver clever and biting lyrics in the best #PostPunk tradition. All done with incredible bombast and a dismissive sneer, like the best bands of yore.

I DEFINITELY have more to say on this one, so come read it tomorrow! (Cutting this to fit in a single post was PAINFUL 😅 )

Here is my review of Ride's Interplay, the latest album by the reunited British shoegaze band. Published today in PopMatters:

@Great_Albums I think I’m into this record? Like you say - an album for those already on board. Gorgeous textures and production, and asinine lyrics, which is to say, a Ride album in 2024.

Great_Albums,
@Great_Albums@mstdn.social avatar

@DaveG924 Agreed. A good record by a good band.... though somewhat shy of great.

I've been getting really into the wider lost world of lately. It's pretty great as work background : the beat propels me forward, and the vocals are present but indecipherable under multiple strata of guitar fuzz.

I discovered Drop Nineteens on Friday. I love this 1992 album, both for the sound and for this extremely period album art that looks like a Daniel Clowes comic panel made real. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzpOjvxVxfg&list=OLAK5uy_kNZUlv1u9bZNDfQ-Iu0e7Eeqi_vSkrkvQ

Apologies for being a bit slack this year, but fear not... THE PODCAST IS BACK! With a bit of a 90's indie-rock vibe.

I also feel the need to apologise to anyone who may have follwed me due to my tooting, because the music I play is probably a bit different...

people keep asking me 'what is shoegaze?' and rather than address this complex, wide ranging question each time I've made a playlist i can link that I feel provides all the answer anyone needs with a mix of classic and current archetypal sounding tunes

Sometimes, when you're looking for something fun to listen to while enjoying the last bit of the weekend, the answer is an album from called "Whale Dick" with song titles such as "Hangry Iceberg", "Gay for Satan", "Eat the Rich", and, of course, the title track (featuring throat singing from ).

I was going to wait until next Wednesday for Music Women Wednesday for this one, but I need to talk about this album right now.

'Precious Dream' by Hot Garbage came out today and I just finished listening to it. It's perfect. More than likely will make my top 20 this year unless 20 other amazing albums somehow surpass it. I doubt they will. Both Juliana and Alex Carlevaris sing, they're siblings. It's like psych, garage, post punk, shoegaze? But there's also some wild bluesy and dark country-ish vibes. It's amazing fuckin SONGWRITING is what it is. This is Hot Garbage's second album, now I gotta check out their first.

@jake4480 Hadn't heard of them before, but interesting stuff and will give it multiple listens. Lots of elements to it, including - for me - shades of Loop and early A Place To Bury Strangers

@tangleofwires oh awesome - I haven't heard either of those! Need to now!

- – Isn't Anything (1988). Sounding like nothing in its time, this LP is a jarring mix of swimming melodies, obscured vocals, and effects-laced guitars that twinkle one moment, spew sheets of noise the next. “Cupid Comes” sounds like a power pop band coming unhinged after a sleepless night. “Feed Me with Your Kiss” is a raging wall of fuzz against which Kevin Shields and Bilinda Butcher fight for air. Nineties shoegaze begins here.

KCDOZ,
@KCDOZ@mastodon.social avatar

@Great_Albums Aha - went looking and found it again. Quietus interview that dives into gear (discovering & misusing). Pretty interesting.

They Are Gutting a Body of Water brings a different perspective to shoegaze with their quirky shifts and the lighter sonic palate they bring into their otherwise fuzzy sound.

- - Everything is Alive (Dead Oceans). Seldom does a band on a second career run match the quality of their work 30 years earlier. I'm not saying this release tops Souvlaki, but Slowdive's deeper plunge into billowy dreampop is a natural progression from 2017's comeback effort. I miss the Cocteau Twins so damn much, and while "Alife" and "Kisses" aren't that, Neil Halstead and company bring a similarly keen melodic factor to their new work.

My latest Spotify playlist is called 'Church of Noise'.

It's a sprawling 12+ hour mixture of some of my favourite shoegaze, dream pop, power pop, slowcore, post-punk & noise rock songs... I threw a few of my own in there too.
