Il disco del giorno è «The Last Fourfathers», il terzo dei Prisoners.
I've talked about Indianapolis' scuzz-punk kings BINGO BOYS before, but today I want to highlight their 2021 record 'More'. These songs are ALL bangers, as usual (fun fact about Bingo Boys, they don't even know how to write bad songs that aren't infectiously catchy).
I hope to someday be able to write a song that is as damn good as 'Glow' or 'Spidersac' here -- these tunes SMOKE. 🔥
I mentioned Bingo Boys' 2023 record 'Freak Out & Leave' in February, how I was upset I somehow missed it last year. They're from Indianapolis, Indiana and make some incredible catchy, melodic psych-ish garage/punk.
I've been going through their back catalog today and they don't even have bad songs. 🤯
Bingo Boys put out a couple singles this/last year which are unfortunately only on Spotify, but Bandcamp has several of theirs too- ALL good: https://bingoboys.bandcamp.com
#NowPlaying a straight up feel good banger of a record from 2023 that you may have noticed already because I never shut the hell up about it last year, Gee Tee's 'Goodnight Neanderthal'
Sometimes you're lucky and a song pops up that you can't stop listening to for good reasons. At the moments it's Bruce by Killer Antz. It's that killer combination of lyrics, melody and tone that means I can't get enough.
You ready to hear about some #OPM (other people's music)? I'm going to try something different this week and add all of the music I'm covering in one thread, with the blog containing slightly longer versions of all of these linked at the end. LMK what you think of this format.
A driving rock song with a touch of psychedelia covering that most heart rending of technological snafus – losing everything you’re working on to a crash. Buzzing guitars and a vocal that would have seemed at home on some early ‘70s garage psych track are the twin engines powering this song, but the real treat is the bridge’s brooding #psychedelic guitar riff that comes in just over halfway thru.
If you need some wild, menacing, herky jerky, often fuzz-drenched music for some energy this Friday, may I present for your ear holes a new discovery from Detroit, FEN FEN.
Fen Fen don't mess around. This self-titled record of theirs is from two years ago. Kinda garage punk, kinda remind me of like, Braniac sometimes? Also a little Briefs or Buzzcocks.
I talked a lot about Moar last year, the garage band Rafael Valles Hilario does with friends. Rafael has another project called Tuff Guac that's similar, but he sang & played everything himself on this second Tuff Guac album 'Swanky Love' that came out today.
I forget who all liked Moar last year, but if you did, you'll like this. I dig everything Rafael makes. 💥
Something's in the water in Australia that makes great rock and roll. PLEASANTS is the new solo effort of Al Uminium (Dennis Cometti, Aborted Tortoises, Ghoulies) and it's catchy, rough, raw, fun, and synthy.
If you're into catchy garage synth punk-ish stuff, you're gonna dig. Even has some kinda 60s garage feel or 70s punk feel to it sometimes.
Recommended, and might be a contender for my favorite albums of 2024.
St. Louis' STILL ANIMALS released their first self-titled LP today, and I've been waiting to hear all of this one after stumbling across them a couple months back and loving their demo.
After just listening to the whole thing, I can confirm, amazing catchy, solid garage rock songs front to back. Easily one of my favorite records of 2024 so far. Need to give this one a LOT more listens, but it's a perfect album for Bandcamp Friday - check it out!
Apologies for being a bit slack this year, but fear not... THE PODCAST IS BACK! With a bit of a 90's indie-rock vibe.
I also feel the need to apologise to anyone who may have follwed me due to my #TOTP tooting, because the music I play is probably a bit different... #shoegaze#punk#indierock#garagerock#grunge
Killer hazy, heavy #garagerock with Ty Segall playing drums.
A friend bought me this when it came out in ‘13, and it took me a while to click with it. Now, I listen to it multiple times a year, and it’s become a fun album I consistently revisit.
Super #stonerrock goodness, particularly the song “What’s In My Head?”.
Anybody ever hear of Atomic Suplex from Croydon, UK? This album '14 Inches of Fist' is from 2015, and I'm just hearing it today for the first time. EVERY track is a ripper. This is a SOLID garage/punk record. I mean, damn! 🔥
Gen and the Degenerates are pretty badass. They have a new album called 'Anti-Fun Propaganda' that comes out next month and this is the first song on it. It's a great video too, and the song is catchy as hell.
I mentioned this album on Wednesday, but now that it's out and I just listened to all of it, I can confirm that 'The Future is the Pits' is a certified banger. SEVERAL times as I was listening, I was like, DAMN this is catchy! The WHOLE thing is.
If you like fun, raucous bluesy garage rock/punk, Australia's Sick Fizz are definitely for you. What an ALBUM. Another serious contender for my top 20 that I can't currently see something knocking off the list.
